Same situation in Lewisville. No ammo, mags, and very few handguns/rifles of any type. Most of the folks buying handguns had no idea what they were buying.

I have a neohew living in Katy. I might get him to drop buy and pick me up some ammo. They are out of most stuff I need at the midway site.

I stopped by Gibsons today in Weatherford. They apparently got only a small portion of their ammo shipment in, had about 20 boxes of 5.56. I went ahead and picked up 5 boxes. While I was there, I asked them if they had any .22 ammo, the guy pulls a 50 round box of Remington off the shelf, and my jaw dropped when I saw the price tag. $18.99 for a 50 round box of .22's. Needless to say, I left without any .22 rounds, and had a hard time putting my chin back in place. I could not believe that. outrageous

You might try small town hardware stores. True Value in Bandera has plenty of ammo.

The stores here in San Angelo are starting to get a little bit of ammo and it is staying on the shelves a little longer. Try finding out when their shipments come in and try to be there when they stock the shelves.

Found .22LR at wally world the other day for 1.89 for boxes of 50. It was the remington thunderbolt stuff. Never used it before but its better than nothing I guess.

Academy in Rosenberg,TX had plenty ammo today for pistols, rifles, and shotguns, although I didn't look for 9mm this time so not sure if they had it. Didn't see any .223, 7.62X39.

Academy here in San Angelo gets ammo on M-W-F. Doors open at 8 and high demand stuff is gone immediately. (except 40 s&w..been there every time I go in). They did have a good selection of rifle ammuntion in decent quantities through the day yesterday.

Academy here in San Angelo usually gets shipments in the morning and has the ammo out between 0830-0900. Gone by noon for the popular rounds. Large caliber stuff is always in stock now. .243 and above.

buying ammo in January???? Good news is they will all overload themselves now and when the summer roles around and it is actually time to start getting the ammo ready there should be plenty.

Its a cycle, right now people are still in the buy way more than they need stage, Tax returns over the next month won't help, but give it a few months.

The practice ranges are sure to benefit from all the panic buying eventually. People are buying a lot more ammo than they would otherwise shoot in their lifetime. Rather than let it collect dust, eventually they decide to find to get some value out of it.

So clear something up for me. Is it that folks are worried that all these calibers listed above are in jeopardy of being banned...I don't think so. Is everyone worried that the prices will skyrocket beyond affordability, possible but not likely. So why is everyone stockpiling? All the debate at the fed level is on the guns themselves and/or mag capacity NOT the ammo. Box limits are a must right now so that target shooters can continue their hobby. Otherwise the Doomsday Prepper will come in on shipment day and bye up all a stores inventory with no regard to anyone else. Just my opinion.

I don't think it's so much stock piling but looking to make extra and easy money.I have been told by a few people that they are buying everything they can at the stores and then sell it at gun shows or out on craigslist for 4X what they paid. As long as people still continue to pay what people are asking it will continue.

I will tell you all this much. I will NEVER again buy from Cheaper than Dirt if I can avoid it. Sorry suckers that they are, they are outright price gouging folks. I stopped by there a couple of days ago to pick up a new stock for my rifle, and they had some of the Remington 5.56 and American Eagle .223 out on the shelf.
They were selling them for $29.99 for a 20 round box! And, there were actually people in there buying them! I know as long as there are stupid people that will pay that price they will sell it, but its disgraceful, especially to all the loyal longtime customers. Heck, I bought that same Remington ammo from Gibson for 11-12 bucks a box. Its just ridiculous!

I've always felt that having extra ammo is just plain common sense, and I picked up a bunch of extra ammo last when the election results came in. To me it's just plain obvious that a nasty ammo tax is coming down the pike when the anti gun freaks reach their limits on gun control.

I still have plenty and don't need to pay panic prices. But I do add a few boxes now and then by hitting Walmart in the early morning on the way to work. In the last 2 weeks, I've picked up 50 round boxes of the new Fiocchi/Tula Brass in .223, bulk packs Federal 555 rounds of .22 LR and some Remington and Winchester 12 ga slugs. All of it at normal Walmart price.

Even if new taxes don't materialize, the cost IS GOING TO climb and climb like everything else. We all talk about "what ammo used to cost" - well..........?

Marc

There will always be the ignorant that will pay the high prices on resales. They have no clue why they are buying the ammo, they are just buying in panic and creating more panic.

The last time I was a the Abilene Academy I did notice they had ammo on the shelf for my deer rifles, 270 and 243. They also had an AR15 on the shelf. Not sure on the inventory issues, as I wasn't really paying attention, I was only there while my wife looked for ski pants for her and the grand kids.

I was just at the Academy here trying to buy ammo for an upcoming small game hunt. I found .410 shells & slugs OK, but when I asked for .22LR, the guy behind the counter told me there was NONE in the store, and people line up every Wednesday to get ammo because that's the day it comes in.

Not trying to disparage anyone's views, but this paranoid hoarding of ammo is F'd up. Grasp reality, people.
