Anybody who does a lot of predator hunting will run into this problem, over pressured yotes. I have found that if I use less volume and shorter sequences with longer pauses, I tend to call in more critters. I also tend to stay on the stand for about 30 minutes. Lately, it has been tough just getting 3-5 yotes a day. Anyone else have any other tricks? I also use a decoy to help consume the critters attention.

Yep, if they have really been hunted a lot, calls ain't gonna cut it. Bait em up. Female contact howls and male challenge howls might get you a dominate dog or two, maybe.

I'm very impressed that you can get 3 to 5 a day of them. I'm not doing so good lately, and I have never had a 5 yote day. I am calling for shorter periods, but whatever I'm saying to them doesn't seem to interest them much.

When the hunting gets that slow I just go where they have not been pressured/shot.

Sit for awhile after you turn the call off. They will sometimes come take a look around after they think things have settled down.

A buddy and I went searching for a cat he shot at and 10 mins later as we were walking back, a yote was just 100 yards from us coming in.

I have used a coyote decoy and coyote vocals with mouth calls on last two sets, and oddly enough, produced two female "takers"...

Yep. At least 10 minutes after you shut off the call.

Don't mean to offend anyone, but I pride myself in calling. Anyone can bait and shoot, if I was going to do that I would just drive, spot and shoot. Just not my taste. I have been trying new areas but they may just be new to me and have been hunted, not really sure yet. I also do not use e-callers, prefer mouth calls. I just wondered if maybe someone had been using a sound that I'm not. I have been sitting on stands for 10-15 minutes after I quit calling just for the extra insurance. The 3-5 yotes a day is certainly not hunting every day but about every 3 or 4 days. I may call them in and not get a shot. I have thousands of acres to hunt, some just produce better.

I don't think you will find any magic . Sounds like you have it down. Domestic cat, dog sounds might add a trick or two. It has worked for me.

Isnt the reason for preditor hunting to get rid of them? sounds like its working

I think you are doing awesome. If I could just call in 3 a day, once in every 5 trips, I would be happy. Calling them in like that takes a very good skill set, one that I do not have. Congrats to you.

True, the idea is to control predators, not eradicate them. Thanks for all the advice! I have not tried any domestic cat or dog distress sounds yet, but I have an area near a subdivision where that could be deadly. I have been predator hunting for @15 years and it is harder now than it was back then. There are a lot more people enjoying the sport now days. I'm glad to see it, It helps the gun, ammo, camo and other manufactories that produce our equipment. It helps kids start hunting and keeps us sharp on our shooting.

This isn't for all and some may or may not do so, but when I have come onto land which I have secured permission to call/trap on, and the coyotes have been called up/missed or call-shy, I start putting steel in the ground for them. A place where they have been called but not trapped before, an experienced coyote/cat trapper can do very well on those places.

If you can find a place with dumb ones let me know. They all have been educated to some degree. And for some of us it isn't about the "sport" of it. We need to kill them to protect our stock/exotic/deer herds.

Yall seem like big time yote Hunters I got a question. I enter a hunt in my area every year just for the fun of hunting. But every year there are guys that bring in 2 cats and a fox and some yotes for a day and half hunt.thats seems a little much . Am I wrong for thinking that is to much or not?

It's possible. This was a good day for me. This was in one night on the ground by myself. Really good hunt and I missed 1 coyote and 2 foxes.

Definitely possible, it takes 8 yotes or better and a cat to place at the hunts around here. However, the yote hunting is way better out west or deep south. A day and a half can bring in lots of animals. We usually hunt a lot of different places here, hay meadows and farm land. Out west or down south they can hunt one place all night and not cover all of it. They don't have as much pressure there as the yotes here do. There is nothing else besides pigs to hunt here.

I too, trap some on areas that have severe predation problems. I myself raise sheep and understand what yotes can do to a herd. I don't knock guys for killing them any way they can. Where I live, there isn't that many sheep or goat farmers but a lot of cattle raisers and the yotes don't get very many calves. So mostly I get to hunt hay fields or farmland which I like to call and shoot.

It's cool when any animal comes to a call. Duck, turkey, elk or predator. It is the ultimate thrill. However, I'll kill them however. Gun, bow, truck. Anyway it works out.
