I have heard they will be out if it is near 60. I was almost tagged by a rattler when it was 65 and windy, never heard the rattle because the wind was whipping so hard. All I noticed was the constant movement out of the corner of my eye, turned out to be his rattle!!!!!! Close call!!! Here he is...This was in early 2010...He let me jump sky high, get inside my SUV, find a camera, and get his picture. Then he lay perfectly still until I got a shovel, drove up beside him, and well you know what happened next....  Be cautious everyone! This crazy hot/cold weather has them confused if it is spring yet!

Biggest rattler I killed was in south Mississippi the day after Christmas about 15 years ago. Had been cold for weeks and then a 75 degree day popped up. Had my nephews with me and I told them before we headed out to be careful...snakes could be out sunning...boy was I right...it was a inch or to from being 6 foot...9mm made sure it was a good snake.
