I don't know how you couldn't like crane meat.

You have to go to one of the TPWD field offices to get a permit for them now. It's free but just not worth the effort to me.
You can just call them, they will issue you a number over the phone and mail the stamp.

Thanks, I was told wrong I guess. I'll get one next season.

Well that's a first. I've heard they're pretty good if cooked right. Good luck!

Or you can get a permit online for a $5 convenience fee.

I've been getting my license on-line for about 5 or 6 years now. Only way to go. No lines, and no dealing with idiot clerks that don't know what you want. It's a 35-mile round trip if I drove anywhere for one, so the gas and time savings alone are worth the $5 fee. You do have to read the license types and understand which one's you need. I always get the Super-Combo with SW/FW endorsements, sandhill crane, and Federal Duck Stamp. Word of caution though, the duck stamp comes separately in an envelope that looks a lot like junk mail. No indication at all on the outside where it's from or what it is. Didn't mean to hi-jack...never had sandhill crane. We're in their safety zone, no hunting them allowed anywhere I hunt.

Gonna have to say no to the Ribeye statement. They are good injected and grilled but not a ribeye. At least in my opinion, show me the beef.

When I was at UNT I cooked probably 30-40 crane breasts during opening season tailgate and gave them away. Told everyone it was steak. Nobody questioned it... even though nothing else we were cooking was domestic. It was deer burgers, elk sausage, back wrapped jalapeno dove, and the crane. I guess everyone thought I cooked the "steaks" for those that wouldn't eat wild game. Fooled em all.
