I've been thinking of a 6mm rifle for my next purchase. Want to give it to my kid , to shoot and hunt whitetails. Any opinions of this caliber for a young shooter? I know it's about the same as a 243 but, I like the case design for reloading. Thanks, jefe08

![welcome welcome](/forum/images/graemlins/default/kgo_057.gif) Welcome to the forum. I am not a reloader but grew up shooting the 6mm rem. Love it. Sweet round and killed a lot of critters when I was young. Not sure it has any advantages over the 243win. Love that one too.

Welcome. A 6mm was my go to gun this year. I am very partial to it and .25-06 for anything in Texas. Recoil on both is very manageable(both my daughters shoot them and both weigh under 90 pounds.).

Welcome aboard.
I have been shooting off the shelf Reminton 6mm for over 30 years in Texas. IMHO it is a better load than .243, which btw I have used over the same time period. The 6mm has more knock down at 200 yards than the .243.
Knock on wood, I have never had Texas whitetail go more than about 10 yards. And, as you mentioned it is a good load for kids and adults...
Searching the world over for the perfect Chile Relleno.

My Mauser 98 Custom in 6mm Rem is 40 years old (My dad had it built for me when I was 2). I love the round, flat dead accurate, low recoil. Just like a .243 but better (Yes I own a 243 too, it has not been fired since 93). Killed my first doe and buck with it and have aded many more to it since then. It will be my daughters next step up from her 22-250.

6mm has better ballistics but are really the same still 3000fps w/a 100gr bullets. a better feel or fit would be a 7mm/08 and shoot 120s same vel and the caliber can be grown into and out of and like me, back in. 110gr.yotes to pigs 160 gr. even elk, one gun, another caliber is the 6.5x55 sweed 2600-2800- fps 120 or 140 and kills out to 3oo it will out shoot that .243 bar none. It dosn't take 3000 fps to kill an animal. its your shoulder or the kids your choice. Buy guns that shoot.
