What brand of 45acp carbide dies would you recommend and with what crimp?

I use the Lee and never had a problem thousands of rounds later. I also use the Lee factory crimp die.

Yipper. Been using Lee .45 ACP dies and FCD for years as well.

Good stuff.

Same here Lee dies, from before the days of the Factory Crimp die being available. A good taper crimp works great with the ACP

Agree about taper crimp. You don't need the extra die. The bullet seater will apply a taper crimp if set up properly. I like the separate FCD because it isn't case length sensitive.

Looks like the ones at midway are on backorder now for the 4 die set (FCD included). That was quick. They still have the 3 die sets available.

Lee for pistol dies can't be beat. Rifle dies are another story. I've had a few problems with Lee rifle dies but their customer service was awesome in replacing the parts (broken decapper pin etc). I ended up replacing my Lee .300wsm .223 dies with Hornady.

Count me in too. I have the Lee 4 die set, and they are great.

I just used my lee dies for .45 auto for the first time this week. I did a taper crimp, but the crimp wan't very noticeable like with the .357 magnum dies. Have any of you who use the lee dies for .45 noticed this? I feel like I add almost a full extra turn of the die to crimp it, but it still isn't very noticeable.

Don't mean to highjack the thread, I just figured this was along the same lines and might be a useful question to help you decide if you want to get the extra die.

Taper crimp will be different than the roll crimp used on the revolver cartridges like your 357 Magnum. The revolver cartridges head space off the rim while the ones like 45ACP head space off the cartridge mouth where a roll crimp would not be an effective head space. Different designs for different firearms.

A taper crip shouldn't be visibly noticeable like your roll crimp on a wheel gun cartridge.

Skiffboat, the Lee dies are always easy to setup and very consistent. They are all I use.

Thanks for all the info. I was able to backorder the dies from midway. I'll have to wait 4-6until weeks but I think the wait will be worth it.

You can get 3 die sets from Cabela's and the FCD seperatly and not be back ordered. That route is in stock according to their website and nor have to wait.

I have an old Lee speed load, anyone ever seen or used one? I bought this one to take to the ranch to use with straight line press. Worked like a charm.

Those are pretty neat little tools in a pinch. Wouldn't want to do any volume with one for sure but it would be easy enough to pack on an extended hunt with some components so if you ran out/lost/forgot ammo and needed to put a couple rounds together you'd be all set.

Lee does some things very right.
