Looks exactly like a gadwall hen to me. Your buddy probably needs to hunt with a partner that can identify ducks if he thinks this is a hybrid.

Defiantly more of a rust color than I've seen. Could just be a gad with some off coloring.

Okay, did not notice that, just looked like the sun reflecting off the feathers but some will have a red tint to them.

That would be one of the very few gadwall hens I've ever seen mounted bc that's not a hybrid.
