I will always remember my first trip to Uvalde, Tx.
I had been hunting dove for over ten years but never had I seen flock after flock of 100+ Whitewings spill 150 feet of air into grainfields that I was standing in.

Last weeks scouting trip to my hunting fields revealed crops of corn in the process of being harvested with much of the crop being left in the field. These are for all practical purposes legally baited fields.
Doves are already finding the food just a day after this field is cut.

Opening weekend Uvalde, TX Dove hunts for central zone / Sept 1st - 7th. I have 1200 total ac all planted in milo, corn & sesame (some cotton). Four seperate fields located 3mi, 7mi and 9mi north of town. Last year opening day we had a total of 24 hunters and we have never been overcrowded. Charging $80/all day, property within 15 miles of a cool plunge into crystal clear Frio river to get out of mid day heat and recharge for afternoon hunt. I also have access to two seperate 1100 & 180 ac farm charging $85/day as a back up contingincy plan if for some reason birds are not moving well over my fields. I have been dove hunting for 24 years now all over Tx and let me tell you, this is some of the most consistantly productive dove day lease land in the state.

As always I will (job willing) arrive in town on/around Aug 29th for a couple days of scouting in which any and all hunters are welcome to attend free of charge as well. Will also try to post some real time scouting pics in the few days which lead up to the sept 1 opener.
If you do plan to attend you will need to reserve your own hotel room in Uvalde (Rms available starting @ $50/night Dbl person Occ.) and better do it soon as this town is typically sold out of rooms weeks before Sept 1st. Several RV parks available in area w/ no crowding issues. Del Rio / Acuna, Mexico is just 80 mi to the west for those of you in need of some $2.31/gal fuel.

This party will be continued for the south zone dove regular season opener in Beeville, Tx. This trip is a very close second to the Uvalde hunt. Several fields scattered around Beeville with a serious overpopulation of Eurasian Collared doves but numerous Mourning & Whitewings as well. Free Pre-Hunt party on the night before the opener at the Guide/Hosts home, $40 hotel rooms w/pool and right next door to a great beer joint. This hunt is put on by Wally De La Garza the most seriously addicted hunter I know w/more than ten 160+ BC bucks hanging on his walls along w/about 100 other trophy kills.

No deposits necessary but anyone interested will need to PM me with their info. Please understand that I will be one of the hunters and these two hunts take place on the land of farmers/rancher's that has taken me years to cultivate trusting relationships with therefore appropriate behavior and respect for property and other hunters is required. Not looking to make alot of $ by leading these hunts as almost all of the day lease fees will go straight to landowner, my primary interest is to find a couple of people that enjoy the sport as much as I do.

Dove Hunting Rules

1) Pick up all of your trash and shotgun hulls.

2) Respect the farms we hunt on and the other hunters. No one person is larger than the interest of the land or the overall group so give each other plenty of space and be aware of property boundaries.

3) No shooting over or jumping over neighboring fences. This is actually a law now and the majority of neighboring farms in this area are owned by farmers/ranchers who have asked us to stay off the fences.

4) Dogs are allowed as long as you will take responsibility for them and keep up with their needs.

5) Hunters may drive along edges of field if the field roads are not wet. If your tires create ruts of more than 1 inch stop immediately and return to field entrance to park. Never drive into or park in the field.

6) Birds may be cleaned in the field as long as it is done over a trash sack and every effort is made to remove all remaining feathers and other bird remnants from the field .

7) This Day hunt is for doves only! No other animal or species of bird are to be taken.

8) ANY HUNTER DEMONSTRATING UNSAFE GUN HANDELING ACTIVITY WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE PREMISIS IMMEDIATELY.

I agree to follow these rules and understand that any disregard for them will result in the termination of my hunt without any refund.

Looking forward to making a few new friends

Looks like sunrise is at 7:17 AM therefore shooting time would be 6:47 AM so I will plan on meeting my hunters (that have not checked in Sunday afternoon) at "The Oasis Outback" @ 5:30 AM. This will give everyone enough time to complete their hunters release form, pick up a breakfast taco and get set up before first light.

The town of Uvalde sits both north and south of Hwy 90 which means Central zone opener on Sept 1st and South zone special Whitewing season opener on Sept 6th.

Doves are starting to stack up in harvested fields and it only gets better from here. Still have several hotel rooms available.

I am hunting that area again this year with another guide service, and it is better than anything you have ever experienced....some of my friends that go down there say it is as good as Mexico, except a smaller limit. if you can go... go by all means

Arrived in Uvalde yesterday afternoon at 4:00 pm to 75- 85 degree temps and got a little scouting in before a light rainshower pushed me out of the fields. Area has been getting some rain showers approx every other day according to locals. Plenty of birds but precip appears to have them moving around in some fairly erradic flight patterns. Local weather reports look quite favorable for Monday's opener with only a 10% chance of rain under partly cloudy skys.

Found good numbers of whitewings hannging out in our very back property hanging out along a line that was composed of a pivot (ag sprinkler), brush/tree/high fence line that all sits under a power line. Doves are having a field day (no pun intended) staging along this line before moving into the cut corn to feed.

All of the corn (approx 600 ac) has been cut w/ approx 10% of it plowed under. Ranch roads are moist enough to prevent dust but dry enough as to not stick to your tires at this time.

Hotels have recd numerous cancelations due to hurricane Gustav so plenty of rooms now available. Be safe on your drive out and watch your speed as I-10 is wall to wall DPS.
