So if y'all could think of Anything it could be it sure would be great I'm about to go bonkers thinking and hearing that squeak.... It's a 2002 chevy 4x4 1500 If that helps.

Those things can be elusive. Under what conditions does it squeak? On all surfaces? Turns? Bumpy surfaces? Maybe the wheel cover?

I'd look at all body/fender connections in that area. Tailpipe hangers etc. Rear bumper mounts?

Good luck. Hope you find it while you still have your sanity. :-)

are the surfaces glazed?
are these oem brakes?
the cheaper they are, the more noise
you'll get.
i bought some cheap az pads one time
and they made a grinding metal-to-metal
sound after a month. took it back apart,
looked brand new as expected, deglazed
everything, lasted another month.
grind-grind! ! same deal.
modern non asbestos pads are bad about
noise and erratic wear unless you spend
some dough on top drawer brake pads.

I understand the cheap pad problem but what I dot understand is the noise goes away when I hit the brakes or make a left turn it's like maybe the dust cover is hitting the axel shaft or something like that. I guess I'll have to listen to my uncle just turn the music up a little more.

Sounds like a rotor slightly warped! When you're not on the brakes the high spot is rubbing the pad.....that will keep 'em glazed over. When you make a turn there is just enough pressure on the wheel to counteract the slight rub!

I have replaced the rotors twice took all three of them to work ran an indicator on them and all were perfect the first one was only 5 10ths off I have no idea I took the tire back off today and seen the dust cover was bent a little bent it back to where it needed to be took the truck around the block no squeak FINELY came home watched some tv went to the store "squeak squeak squeak" I was beyond mad so I have no idea taking it to the shop tomorrow to get the lift put on so I'm going to ask him to take a look.

Just throwing stuff out.....

Are you sure it's brakes? Could it be a rear U-joint going out? They will squeak like that everytime the drive shaft rolls over when they are worn & out of grease. confused2

Like I said, just throwing out ideas (problems I've seen in the past) up

Believe it or not, back in the 80's we had an older fella come into the shop with what sounds like an identical noise. Brakes were all good, no bent backing plate, good u-joints, etc. Turns out he was low on gear oil in the rear diff. and the noise he was hearing was the dry seal squealing on the axle. I've been turning wrenches for a living since 1985 and that's the only time I've ever seen that. I'd put money on a dry u-joint like HNF said. Try running it with the rear axle up on jackstands and see if you can pinpoint where it's coming from.

Here's another one!

Re: Brakes

On some pads there is a little piece of spring steel on the back of the pad bent over toward the rotor which is designed to touch (scrape) the rotor and "chirp" if the pad is worn. I had one of these bent in too far (from the factory)and liked to have never found it......bent it back like it was supposed to be and solved the problem.......

..again just thinking outside the box!

leaf springs will do it but not usually much on a smooth road

I vote for the u-joint

Wouldn't u joints pop my brother in law has a jeep that he has made to a crawler 7 inches of lift 38 inch tires and we have had bad u joints and they pop on every rotation not squeak I'm starting to think the pads are uneven or something I have looked at everything else and also there is a line starting to show up on the rotor and it rubs off like rubber or something i don't know after I replaced the rotor and e brake shoes the squeak got louder I am going nuts.
