I really don't know how much help I will be, but here goes.

I have never hunted Muley's in Texas, only Colorado and Nebraska.

In Texas, there are really 3 main areas for muley's, some folks may not agree with how I am delineating the areas, but you have the Trans-Pecos/Big Bend, the Rolling Plains, and the Panhandle.

I see some hunts advertised in the Dallas paper each year, for the area around Van Horn. One has been running as thousand dollars and the hunt is supposed to be on a 10 section ranch, some people would think that is a big place, but that is 6400 acres, and while it is big, it is not big out in the trans-pecos/big bend area, where ranches of 30 to 50 sections and larger are common. With the range conditions as they are, I am not sure how many muley's a person might encounter on a 10 section ranch. Also during the past couple of years, I have heard some grumblings concerning the outfitter that is offereing those hunts. I believe that he offers another hunt on a different ranch for $1250.00 per gun or so.

From what I am seeing in both the Rolling Plains and the Panhandle, muley hunts are selling fairly high. Management of mule deer is different than for whitetails, so rarely do you ever see mule deer doe tags available on any of the properties where they are hunted.

My best advice, is to start checking around after this season, and see what is available and where. I will tell you that what few outfitters I have checked out, want as much, if not slightly more, than what they ask for a trophy whitetail. Figure some where in the neighborhood of 2500.00 and up for a decent buck.

Hope some of this helps. Randall

I went on a hunt last year. It was something like 3 days of hunting with one before and after. It cost $850. We booked it in Nov for a Dec hunt. 10000 acres all on your own. They have about 10 hunters and give you a section. Food is included and is real cowboy. I loved it. Hunting is hard. Sanderson, Tx. Low success rate. I saw 3 legal mule deer (6pt or better) and only two that I was willing to shoot and one monster white tail. He was legal, but at 350 yards I couldn't get a clean shot so I passed. He never came back. If you are interested, PM me. I don't want to hurt business. I did get a mule deer and a javelina.

Don't be concerned about hurting my business. I don't really rely on Texans, cause at this time all we are doing is Javelina hunts. As for the Muley's, that is a good price, and probaly a hunt I would be interested in, as most muley hunts in Texas are usually a lot higher.

I went on a hunt up to the Lake Meredith NRA a few years back, and it is really interesting country. I believe bankrunner has hunted up there quite a bit and successfully.

My impression of the area, was that since those counties only have a two week season, the locals turn it into a rodeo each of the 3 weekends.

Also in talking to a couple of other hunters that were out there when I was, the better hunting for the muley's seemed to be dependent on bad weather forcing them off of the private land and down into the Recreation Area, which is mainly the broken country right along the Canadian.

Hey CHC-I decided to go north out of the Republican valley and hunt a 4000 acre place for mule deer the first two days of deer season in Nebraska. The last mule buck I killed was on this property 10 years ago. Pumped about the oppertunity after being away from the dumbest deer on earth!!

We'll have plenty of time to fill our tags with a whitetail. After seeing a couple of the monster mules taken off of there last year I couldn't help myself!! We're pumped!
