I am looking for a 40 as well. I don't want a sub-compact, but still looking for something to carry comofrtably without alot of bulk. THink I have narrowed it dow to the M&P Compact 40. Any suggestions on something a bit smaller without getting into the tiny gun realm? go with the compact .40, its what i've carried for the last 3 years. I hardly notice it anymore, great pistol
signature coming soon

The 9 and 40 cal guns are exactly the same size, so there's no firearm difference between the 2. There are options that are considerably different particularly if your trying to conceal in summer clothing. I summer carry a Diamond Back 9 in a pocket holster in shorts that no 40 cal could fit. Yes, there are some micro 9mm pistols that are designed specifically around the 9mm case that are good for pocket carry. Most 9mm handguns can be had in the same frame size as the 40 cal, like your Glocks, S&W M&P's and such. That's what I was referring to.

I carry a variety of different pistols in different holsters depending on how I want to dress that day. The Beretta Nano fits in no matter what I wear, but I will pack along something bigger if wardrobe allows.

My preference is my G23 or G27. Just getting comfortable with my Sig 1911 Commander-size with bobtail that Santa brought me. I think it will be next up for cc duty.

Agree with Crews, I carry my Kimber Ultra Carry II if I am wearing enough clothes to conceal it (in Texas that is only a couple of months a year it seems like). I also use a Glock 26. I have started carrying a Colt Mustang and it seems to hide under anything with an inside the pants holster. (I know the limitations of a 380 but I would rather fight it out with the 380 that I have rather than the 45 that I don't)

I have been CHL for years, it comes to this. What you are comfortable with and daily wear. If your a T shirt shorts pant guy harder to conceal. I have several guns for diffirent wear, 380 Desert Eagle I can carry in my front pocket and Glock 26 I wear holstered in the small of my back. Both work flawlesly. Much more comfortable with the Glock. The 26 has the short barrel and I added the extended 15 round magazine. Never an issue with either weapon.

Another thing, I worked as a paramedic for 15 years and retired soldier. The 380 and 9mm round to the chest will stop a feller quick!

The barrel length doesnt matter as much as the grip length. The grip is what will 'print' and catch on your shirts. Your holster choice is just as important as what gun you carry. Back to your question.
I'm 6 5 and I carry a Springfield XD9 subcompact primarily. It comes with the compact mag that fits flush and an extended 16rd mag that makes it a full size grip. When I conceal I use the 13rd which is a fantastic option. Then for around the house, open carry, and extended range shooting you have the full size option.
Other honorable mentions: Glock 19/26 (9mm) Glock 30/36 (.45) Bersa Thunder 380 Springfield XDS (.45) Taurus 709 (9mm) I have a Bursa Thunder .380 but have found it too large and heavy to easily conceal. I'm looking for a true pocket gun. Anyone have a suggestion?

The Bersa Thunder 380 is too large/heavy in the pocket for me also. It is fine with IWB or OWB holster. The Shield and XDs are also holster guns for me, but looking to acquire a Kahr P380 or an LCP for pocket duty. The Beretta NANO makes a nice holster gun from reviews I have read/watched on YouTube.

Love CZ's. but I prefer to carry condition one so the safety is really nice. They always have great ergonomics and personally I like the triggers. I have smaller hands and the CZ's accommodate my reach for the trigger. The P07 duty has an interchangeable safety or decocker so you can carry either way.

For smaller lighter guns in the .380 cal. I like the S&W Bodyguard if you are on a budget. The ruger 380 lcp has horrible sights IMO. They are supposedly streamlined so it doesn't catch on a pocket when you pull it out. Either way I never liked it. If your not on a budget look and like .380 cal look at the sig p238. Excellent sights very compact with 1911 style grip and big batwing safety for condition one.

Anyone have a suggestion? You might look at the Diamond Back 9. It's not the gun you want to spend the day plinking with and you are limited to 124 gr bullets....but it is smaaaaaall. Here's mine that I built a holster for and wear it in the rear pocket of summer shorts.

What threat are you preparing for? I have never been in a carry situation that I felt I needed a high capacity pistol. A second magazine?
I carry a sub nose s&w in 38 or 357. I often carry a speed loader. Now think about when you actually use your defensive weapon. I would like to hear your explaination to the DA's office why you thought you were in a situation that you needed 16 + 1 and an extra magazine.
If a five shot 38 special +p won't get me out of trouble, I doubt 16 + 1 would have either. I just don't think I am going to ever need to fire more than five shots. I am just not going to a place I would need 16 + 1 with a pistol.

If I was aware of a threat. I would carry a longer barrel and two or three speed loaders.

The little Jerichos are actually pretty bad ace. The Israelis are pretty good at making guns.

It is going to be different for everyone, and only you can decide. Clothing and summertime vs winter weather all come into the equation.
Today I left the house with my Beretta M21.
Worthless? No.
Same zipcode though.
Bottom line. For my attire today it worked and I'd rather have that then nothing at all.

hey janie, if your Beretta M21 is a 22lr try those Quikshot 22 bullets in it....they come in a red box...they're a fragment load ,3 swaged fingers that will break from each other on hard impact...they really improve the effectiveness of 22's and they functioned very good in my M21

Chuck, that's about as compact as you can go with a compact double stack magazine. You can easily conceal that pistol with a good IWB holster that hooks onto your belt infront and behind the pistol. It spreads the weight out better, and proturdes less than the holsters that clip on at the pistol and protrudes more at the pistol. The next size down will be your single stack pistols, and they can get smaller. Kyle (KRoyal) made me a holster for my full size G20 (10mm) with tactical light. I've been carrying it a lot, and I love the holster. It spreads the weight out across the belt and conforms to your body very well. Since it's a full size and carried with a full mag of ammo, it is heavy for a CCW. Otherwise, I love it. Holster pic here Thanks Chad, If you decide on a glock 23 I have a glock 19 I can use for the mold and make you a holster for it. The last picture on that thread that Chad posted is of a glock 19 IWB holster I made yesterday.

I think the holster makes the difference...I carry a glock 35 in a iwb (crossbreed) with no issues...very comfortable.
