I just tried a pair of Cabela's XT II binoculars and they are great. I have some others which are more expensive but I found these to be just as good.

To me Meopta and Vortex have the best mid range glass.

Is their a connection between Meopta and Zeiss Conquest optics? May have been just internet speculation, but I'm sure I read that somewhere?

No. Unless zeiss is assembling some of meopta stuff here for them

You may be correct. I just recall having read several times that the Conquest has Meopta glass, but I think Zeiss does the coatings.

Other way around..
Meopta USA building the Conquest line..

I have some Meopta optics out for review and there glass is as good as my Schmidt and Bender, Kahles, Swarovski, etc..

Meopta uses Schott glass but does their own coatings.
They have like 7 multi million dollar machines for it.

OUTSTANDING glass and the best deal in hunting optics right now.

If you're around Allen, the Cabelas Bargain Cave had 3 pair of the Euro HD (Meopta) binos on sale for about $730 or so. The retail is about $1k ...

I have two pair of Docter optic binos, or I'd have bought myself.

As far as I know, Meopta is a Czech company that designs and manufactures their own glass and applies their own coatings. Zeiss being German also does the same thing. I had a coworker of mine buy a cabelas Euro Scope, and it came in a Meopta box. We thought it was odd, but apparently in the states these are assembled together.

I think that for Binos, you have to really get down into the gnat's @ss to find significant differences, except when comparing Zeiss or Swaro to say a Leupold.

For the money, I like my 8x56 Steiner Ranger binos. These are what I was issued in Iraq, and I was really comfortable with them. They have a wide field of view, and even though they are fixed power, my eyes don't get tired looking through them. They are a little heavy, but a good neck strap or harness does wonders.

Korea is nothing like Germany, and no amount of Army Modernization propaganda will convince me otherwise. I miss my wife and kids something fierce

Would be hard to overlook the Vortex Viper HD 10x42 for $600, the cabelas salesman said he would give his pick to the Vortex comparing them to his Cabelas Euro line
