Looking to buy a few snares have a few questions for y'all.
I am hunting 100 acres
How many snares should I buy? What kind if snares to buy? Where do I set them up? Do I bait them? How long do I let them sit? Any other info would help. Thanks guys

Be ready to build some fence if you snare the crossings. I have seen some major damage from a large hog in a snare hanging on a fence at a crossing.

just started messing with snares. i used this site to make some. http://boarmasters.com/making_hog_snares.html i tried to make some bent washers for locks but they just weren't working like i wanted. i ended up buying some of the surelocks from this site: http://www.snareshop.com/ there is a lot of sites that sell snares and parts but they were the best on shipping that i could find. they also sell completed snares by the dozen for about what i payed to make mine but you have shop around town for the best deals on the other pieces (ferrles, stop and cable) but i wanted mine longer so i made them. i don't plan to blanket my area with snares but be more selective of their trails that go through tight brushy/tunnel areas were i don't think the deer can get through.

x2 using snares in heavey underbrush that I have seen hogs come through. As well, if you are targeting fence crossings extend your lead to a tree or set post that just reaches the fence. I didnt do this on the first 200# i snagged and spent a afternoon fixing the fence it tore up trying to get away

I don't plan on using them against the fence. Any more input?

Dsst pm me. I use them and have great successe with them. I don't share much on here anymore. Way to many pro's that rather tell you what's their idea of right and wrong and I'm not gonna argue with them.

I don't try to snare them but I do catch them in snares I set for coyotes. I use 3/32 inch snares and put them in holes under the fence.Usually catch them around the snoot. Some tear up a lot of ground and some don't.

I just built 8 or so for myself using the DIY thread on here. I had some spare cable laying around and the angle as well. I tried the washer trick and I'll keep posted on how it works. I don't have a place to run the snares close by that I could check daily. I did snare one with a commercial snare last week while deer hunting. It was about a hundred pounds and was dead when I got to it. This snare had a cam lock on it and it cinched around his neck. Lights out. It was tied to a T post fortunately.
I didn't bait them but set them up on crossings under fence and brush that would eliminate cattle getting caught in them. I'd say the more snares the better, increases your odds but take some flagging tape and tie close by so you don't lose track of where and how many you set out.
