wanting to build a tower for a blind, wanting advice on what would be best size angle iron / metal to use. I figure the base for the blind will either be a 4 x 4 or 4 x 5 and I am wanting about 10 foot from ground to base. how much angle should I use from base to bottom of legs for good stability?

Thanks

This is a 4x8x8..I use 1 1/2 14 gauge square tubing..If you have a table to lay everything on and weld on its easier..The bottom footprint is 8 x 12..I went out 2 foot on each side from the top platform width..Just remember if you have to haul it somewhere legal width is 8 1/2 feet..

I agree with lazyman, anything 1.5" and up will work just fine. My towers I typically go with about a 10 degree angle, which looks about the same as the one pictured above. Be sure to weld on an eye bolt of some sort in the middle so you can suck it down.

I suggest the 4'x5' size floorplan. I built one this year and LOVE the size - very comfortable with 2 adults, and not too big for one hunter. The material cost difference was virtually nothing - basically one more sheet of plywood.

appreciate the feed back, working on a plan for the tower now and will then start on the blind... 4 x 5 does sound like a good idea overall compared to a 4 x 4. Now just a matter of tower material and cost, angle or square tubing... plus I figure a porch area is really nice for getting in and out of the blind with ease...

I have a 6x8 that's 5 feet tall.....enough for a good sized blind with a porch. PM for details if interested.
