I've got a pretty full dance card this week but next week I am thinking about burning 2 or 3 days of vacation so I can play catch up. Normally by this time of the season I have already logged a dozen or so trips and so far I've got one trip in the books......

Funny thing, what ever water I get on my lease in Jan I will most likely let most of it out. Reason being, I learned last season, the ducks are after the bugs in the milfoil, if water gets too high, the puddle ducks can't get to it. So I need to keep water level the same. Last season we got rain and my ponds filled up, and no more ducks. After Jan I will keep all the water I can get.
Public lakes, we need all the water we can get, looks like the biggest rain of the season coming, and all of Texas should get some good rain.

I love to duck hunt in a light rain. Zero cover needed (except to stay dry)!

I'm not sure what he means by that either. It's easier to hide on a sunny day than when it's overcast.

In DFW, 99.9% of the duck hunters are "fair weather" hunters. Give me a little light rain, and I don't have to deal with them. Also, I hunt from either a layout or tradional blind. In light rain, they seem more confident in their natural abilities to spot danger. When they committ to the spread, they usually don't back out. In blue bird days, I have had them circle 20 times and still not committ. You have to make sure to stay as still as possible for what seems an eternity. IMO, ducks see movement more than anything else. In light rain, my experience is that they come in for a close look and if it looks "right", they splash on in. I don't get the same action when the sun is bright.

The nastier the weather, the better the duck hunting it seems. Aside from a torrential downpour, duck hunting in a cold rain has always been best for me. They want to be on the water when the weather is like that.

I never said I was scared of the rain. I've hunted several days getting soaked. But this isn't just a shower. It's 8" of rain, lightning storms with forecasted tornados. Idk about you but hunting in those conditions is pointless. And yes I know we need the rain and I'm happy we are, just upset it's happening during a pre planned 3 day outing
