My dad got a new lease that he will be planting crops on and yesterday I set up two feeders on it. We know there are deer there. Lots of tracks. I bought 10 bags of corn today and will fill them full. I have them set on 2 sec twice a day until they start coming to it.
Once they start coming should I turn it up? I will feed year round. How much should I feed per day?

I will put out a protien feeder soon also. Do all feed stores sell protien? What is it called? What should I ask for? are there different types of protien feed? I have never used protien before?

I'll post pics of the feeders later. M excited!

Sounds great!!! I'm excited about going to see a new lease in February when I get home!!! Already took feeders and stands off old one in December before I came out offshore!!! The protein I use is moisture resistant and called "Antler max" if I'm not mistaken but they will know at the feed store!!! Good luck!!!

If you buy enough Lyssy and Eckels will deliver. We have used their feed for years and it is great stuff. They also stand by it, if you get a bag with a bunch of fines they will replace. Can't say that about a lot of feeds. Just be careful when buying protein. Make sure that you check where the protein content comes from. We bought some years ago that had it's protein content from ground chicken feathers...not very good feed.

Thanks. I live 5 miles away from Lyssy and eckels. I'll talk to them. I just want to know something so I don't look like an idiot.

Today I filled the feeders full and set up a blind.

Here are the pics. Behind the blind is all brush and the San Antonio river.

Congratulations on the new lease. I would throw around 5 seconds rite now to give them a better chance of finding it and then cut back to 3 secs in the offseason. May want to anchor your feeder down a little better so the cows dont knock it over. Good luck to you. smile

Thanks. The feeder has rebar at each leg and is tied to that. I will add 1 tpost n each leg on Monday. I hope they don't nock it down by then.

I will feed longer but probably not 5 sec. It throws a lot when it goes off.

The place is 920 acres. A lot was brush but we cleared it out to plant crops. It was part of the lease agreement. We have it for 10 years!!! I put another feeder up at the other end. Lots of deer tracks there. Hope I can get some cam pics soon.

Don't sit in that stand during an electrical storm...On a lighter note, electro-magnetic fields have been shown to produce larger bucks with bigger racks... bs

leave the corn at two seconds till right before season....right now you need to concentrate on the protein... i realy wouldnt even waste the money on corn right now. Looks like a good spot and i bet if you go sit in that stand on a full moon youll see plenty of pigs coming out there to eat that reproduced hay all over the ground. Goodluck

Thanks. I will build one protein feeder in the next few weeks. I plan on only running 2 protein feeders. Ill build one more soon after. That should be fine right?

See how well they hit the protein feeder and how fast they clean it up. Then you can make a decision about the next but the more the better. Also your gona need feeder pens with that many cattle out there....you will be just tossin money out the window if not and they WILL destroy your feeders. Some tpost and hog pannel go along way... make sure you set your protein feeder off away from normal human traffic areas...

So hog panels are ok? Or should I use cattle panels? Do I need panels around the corn feeder? Do I put the protein feeders right by the corn feeders?
