I just purchased a Browning A-Bolt stainless 7mm Rem Mag with the BOSS. I'm shooting 150 gr. Winchester ballistic tip ammo, and it says in the owners manual to set the BOSS on 3 for 150 gr. federal. For all you experts out there, how do I go about finding the sweet spot for my ammo. I've already shot up about 2 boxes of shells, and I've yet to get an acceptable grouping. I started at 3 and then went to 2.5 then 3.5 then 2.0 then 4.0. Am I going to far with the adjustment? Also, at one setting, say for example 2.5, I can get a fairly tight group, but when I shoot 3 more shells at the same setting, they are scattered all over the place. It's really getting frustrating.

I got a 7mag with the Boss. When bought it ,it was set on 2 . Took it to the range and shot about 5 different brands and bullet weights through it .I played with it like the book says for different weights . I never found a better setting than 2 for anything, The gun will shoot 3/4 " with ANY ammo with the 2 setting. I have saved some targets shot at 300 yards that are 1 and a half inches.I can shoot anything from a 130 grain through 175 and they will all land with in an inch and a half . I hope yours is as good.

Mine came new in the box and the BOSS was set on 0. I've not went as low as 2 yet, but I'll give it a try. Is your barrel stainless?

OK, according to Browning customer service, it doesn't matter if it's a stainless barrell or not. The guy I spoke with said the setting should be on 3 for Federal or Winchester ammo.

I bought a 270 with a boss system and shot 7 boxes of shells through it before I sold it. Never could get a grouping that I was happy with. Will never own another one.

I LOVE my ABolt with BOSS in 30-06. I just dialed in the recommended setting and shot many, many, many 3 shot groups, letting the barrel absolutely cool between groups, making minor adjustments to the BOSS setting (if the group expands go back the other way), cleaning periodically, until I found the best setting for each round.
Although in theory I should get the same great performance with any production load just by finding the sweet spot on the BOSS, in reality my gun acted just like every other gun I have ever owned. It shot one round (in my case the Federal Supreme in 168gr Sierra BTSP) very well (sub-MOA) and all others were at best limited to an inch and a half to two inch group at 100 yards.
So having said that, it may be that any A Bolt would provide sub-MOA groups with a particlular round, BOSS or no BOSS. I may have just been lucky that what my gun likes is what I like to hunt with.

Yo Redneck, I'd like to add to A-Bolt's good points. You definitely want to allow the barrel to cool down between groups. Also you will want to use a good bench rest or at least some some bags. Good Luck and take your time finding that sweet spot. - Dion
