I own an AR and have a number of 30 and 20 round mags myself, plus a 1000 rounds of 223 ammo. I bought all of these when I purchased my AR a few years back. (and glad I did)

My question is other than just shooting 30 rounds to have fun and shooting as fast as you can at a pack of hogs. What other reasons is a 30 round mag good for? Why does everyone want one so bad?

Good question.. I'm guessing - Because you can!! I have 2 AR's with a couple of 30 and 25 round mags.. I lock'em in when I go hunting mainly because it looks COOL!! smile

I honestly don't know? Other than for STHF purposes, I don't even like them. I like the 20 round ones much better. I guess part of the reason is that most high capacity magazines are prone to feeding issues. Seems as if any magazine that has more than a 30 round capacity tends to have problems.

In my opinion "Spray and Pray" shooting is a waste of good ammo. It is effective in a combat situation where you are trying to keep the enemy tied down so you can maneuver to a better position.

Should you ever need to defend yourself in a horrible situation, do you want 10 rounds or 30?

Maybe you should be asking yourself why you have a number of 20 and 30 round magazines.

I don't own any 30 rounders, only a 3 puny 26 rounders as they dont make larger for 6.8 SPC bang

I use my 10 rounder exclusively for hunting. Used the other ones until I got my 10 rounder, but they just get in the way for hunting purposes. I have no practical use for the larger ones currently, but that is no reason to not be able to own them. My Dad only has 30 rounders for his AK.

Only had 2 30 rounder’s one came with gun other was so I could have it loaded when shooting for fun. Then just picked some 30 and 20 rounder’s up so I could sell sense everyone seems to want one. Might as well make some money at it. sorry for the ones that don’t own one but if they want it then I got em

I was in the Infantry in Vietnam, all we carried was 20 round magazines, and most of us only carried 10 to 15 magazines. Each magazine was only loaded with 18 rounds. When the SHTF, you learned right quick to make your shots count. Only an FNG ran out of ammo, and usually by the 2ND or 3RD firefight he was fully aware of what to do and would have ammo left.

The reason for the 18 rounds, occasionally full magazines of 20 rounds caused malfunctions. That was usually caused by mud and sand in the magazine, but for some reason the 18 rounds would feed flawlessly.

my hunting rifles also double as self defence weapons while carrying in my pickup while i am working at my business, a farm,...a rifle that can carry many bullets is just more practical to me and for pig problems a semi automatic with a 20 or 30 is just more effective ....honestly before feral pigs hit my area i usually used a bolt action or single shot for varmints but i have found that an AR in a flattop platform with a good trigger is extremely accurate and 20 rounds in a mag not that bulky to carry around....besides, i always kept a decent semi automatic pistol with a couple of mags in the center console...i want to have ammo close by and why not have it in mags ready to go if needed

I like to keep 30 and 20 rounders loaded up cause it's easier to travel with them than boxes and boxes of ammo. I even take 30 round mags with me when I don't have my ARs for this reason. Carrying 200 rounds of 223 in the boxes to a p-dog shoot is a PITA, carrying 8-10 magazines is easy.

Just because.

I picked a 42 round mag 2 weeks ago just in time but it was just because.

30 round mags seem to be standard, my buddies in the military seem to have them, so it is the cheapest thing for the companies to produce.

I happen to use my 30 rounders for carbine and 3 gun competitions, and because I can.

DSG Arms has 30rnd PMAGS for $10 if you buy 10, but the sale ends tonight.

Also, I think according to TPWD zombies can ONLY be hunted with 30rnd mags.

I agree first of all with "because we can!"

I also bought a couple of 20 rounders for my so called "assault rifle" a few years back. I've maybe dumped a couple of full magazines simply because I could, and I had the ammo.
I have them for a "you never know" situation, and it's always better to have them and not need them, than to need them and not have them, or like now, and possibly in the near future, want them and not be able to get them ever again.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Why do you need 20 Rounders for "hunting"? Heck you really don't "need" 10 rounders for "hunting". 5 is way more than you need for "Hunting". Good thing the 2nd ammendment has nothing to do with hunting.

There's no waiting period on zombies. On the magazines, not a clue. I haven't checked my account, but they say they don't charge you till they ship.

I like my 30 rounders for a variety of reasons.

A. For when SHTF
B. Zombie apolcolypse, please see A
C. Because I hunt feral hogs
D. Because I like to shoot recreation, and less reloading
E. To defend myself and my family..again please see A
F. Mostly........BECAUSE I CAN!

This is beside the point, but I bought my first 5 round mag last week. I had always heard the 5 rounders were horrible on reliability. But, this one worked like a champ. No issues at all.
