You are best just to use a white salt block from the feed store. I you want to buy a Deer Block get a paymaster they are the best hands down. We sell block feeders and have tried them all over the last 12years.

I use the trophy rocks, they last a long time, and the deer seem to love them. I put them on a old tree stump, and even after they are gone the deer still tear up the stump.

Part of it will depend upon where you are hunting, and the mineral/salt content in the soil in that area.
During the 13 years I hunter the place in Montague county, we tried both salt and mineral blocks, and the deer never used them.
We were a half mile south of the river, and I believe that there was an abundance of both salt and minerals in that ground, so the deer did not need any supplemental salt or mineral.
I have never used the Trophy Rock, but they do look like they will work.
As for price, the salt and mineral blocks do not really cost that much, and along with the Trophy Rock, are items that fall into a category of can't hurt, might help. JMO.

Yea we are right on the trinity river and we poured feeder fire on the ground straight outta the bag and the deer really liked it but it is very expensive and was hoping if i went with the same flavor in a mineral block that would help. But i am right on the trinity river south of dallas and i dont know what kinda salt content is in the ground.

I've had better luck using Acorn Rage then mineral blocks.

Sometime back there was a post about getting a soil sample checked to see what the make up of the soil is, that should include the various minerals and salt level. The Red and the land along it has a high salt content, as does the Brazos I believe, the Trinity may not have that same problem, so a regular salt block might really get some action. As I said, the regular 50 pound livestck salt blocks are not that expensive and the mineralized salt blocks are only a little higher in price. Best of luck and keep us posted on what you find out if you use a block or two.

I will crazy,,, This place and abou 7000acres is not hunted or feed and most people dont even know there is deer here, which there is not a lot but some goodins, so i got permission to hunt and permission to do with this place as i wanted becuase it was just growing up doing nothing, so i made it accessible with a bobcat and now cutting roads and food plots and feeding stations in but i want to try and do this right for growing and managing good deer, in the 3 years i have hunted it i have passed on a couple that would go 130 and maybe bigger and i have yet to harvest a deer. but i want to try and get the numbers in the area now and trying to find the best solution for attracting. So will try a couple options and keep ya posted Thanks

It also depends on if you have pigs or not. If there are a good number of pigs in the area might as well forget it. Once they find a mineral block or that sort they will eat it all right there. Same for mineral attractants/lures. Unless you are going to put it out right before you hunt.

The deer here at my house always make a stop by my trace mineral block I have out for the cows. It is the red block but make sure you get trace mineral and not straight mineral. My cows wouldnt even mess with the straight mineral. The trace has minerals and salt and both deer and cows like it. Of course the deer here are so hungry they are also stopping by the cows protein tub and picking up the left over cubes that I feed the cows. We need a rain bad.

They haven't messed with mine either but when the cows get in they leave a pool of spit and salt where the rock use to be.
I like the trophy rock so when the feed store had them at half price after the season I picked up three.

I was going thru one trophy rock every 7 to 10 days with the deer (at one location), they loved it! Once they were on it a while , I moved it about 25 yds east and more out of sight from the road and a month later they have not touched it...so if you got em (blocks) placed on a place they have or already visit they'll dig it, but having placed TR @ about 20 in different places from there normal routes you won't change their habits that easily. To draw the deer to new spots I have been using Tag Out which has worked pretty good since I put it out 3 weeks ago. okiehuntr

I don't have any good advice about what the best salt/mineral blocks are, but I do have a lesson learned to pass on.
Don't put a block inside a feeder area, if you have cows around!!!
Last year, I put a salt/sulfer block in a feeder pen that we have been running for almost ten years. There are only two strands of barb wire tied to trees to protect the feeder. Never had problems with the cows bothering the feeder.
Two weeks after I put the block in the feeder pen, the cows had torn down the two-strand fence, just to get to the salt block. I moved the block out of the feeder pen, and within a month the cows devoured the block.
The problem continued, though, because the cows went back to dig up the ground inside the feeder pen, where the block was originally laying. Basically, the best feeder location we had got ruined for the hunting season The cows/calves took over the feeder pen, and the deer did not want anything to do with it.
Also, it best to put blocks in some kind of container (i.e. old bath tub, bottom off a barrel, etc), instead of laying them on the ground.
