i read one time or another about a new wetland in seagoville that will be public hunting land like richland creek outside of corsicana, has anyone else heard anything about it, when is it suppose to be completed or anything you can see it off 175, does not seem to be much cover, but since its next to the river might be pretty good....

I have no facts to back up my opinion, but I would seriously doubt that they would open that area up to Public Hunting, simply because of location. I wish they would though. Lots of ducks in the Kaufman/Crandall area.
You're right about it being like Richland Creek WMA, in the aspect of they were both built for the same purpose....water filtration. They will pump water out of the river and let the grasses naturally filter the water, then it's pumped back in.

There you go... pump it all out of Lavon so they can make my water restrictions even tighter and my yard will die even more. Heck...we are already down to only 2 times a week watering. CRAZY.

Calm down Greg. They do not pump out of any lakes. At times, they will pump out of the river to keep the levels up. Once the water (raw sewage) is filtered, the water is pumped to water treatment centers. Eventually, you will get to brush your teeth with it.

I worked on the project, There is a main pump station 1 mile south of the one you see there by 175, it will pump water off the river into the flow system to feed the cleaning tanks the pump station at 175 can direct the water from it's holding pond to help maintain water levels at Lavon, We did dove hunt on the river during constuction but I don't believe it will be open to the public after completion. The dirt crews are still putting in water flow controls and you can drive around in there to look around I believe but I have already been informed that hunting there again this year isn't likely But Who Knows, Im still trying to find out who is going to be in control of the property.

Found this in some of the info I looked at during the bidding Historically, north Texas municipal water supplies have been
obtained from surface water including Lavon Lake. Additional
sources of raw water are drawn from water right permits held by the
NTMWD in Lake Texoma and Lake Chapman.
Recent long-range water supply planning efforts have identified
significant increases in water demands that must be met through
conservation, water treatment plant expansions, and improvements
to both the raw water and potable water transmission systems. By
2020, the NTMWD service area is expected to serve at least 700,000
more residents, which would cause a water shortage if the current
supply is not increased.
To serve this burgeoning population, the NTMWD has decided to
augment its current water supply reservoirs with recycled water by
the use of wetlands in which river water is treated and recycled.
The NTMWD has built man-made wetlands called the East Fork
Reuse Project, which will use natural filtration to further cleanse raw
water from the Trinity River and will supplement the NTMWD’s water
supplies for North Texas.
Water will be pumped from the Trinity River’s East Fork near
Crandall, Texas into the man-made wetlands. As the water passes
through 1,840 acres of wetlands, aquatic plants will polish the water
– a natural process that removes about 95 percent of the sediment,
80 percent of the nitrogen and 65 percent of the phosphorus. The
cleansed water from the wetlands will collect in a basin at a pump
station and then be piped 40 miles to the north end of Lavon Lake –
once the source of the NTMWD’s raw water - and blended with
other raw water sources that include Lavon Lake, Lake Chapman
For a water reuse project in north Texas,
a municipal water utility turned to ITT
for three giant and reliable vertical can
pumps to move treated water over 40
miles back to its source for reuse.

I don't know what they might recieve control, They do work with NTMWD a lot. As far as ducks, that should draw a good crop. I believe most of those ponds were planted with them in mind also. I do know we pulled a many a pound of giant crawfish from there back in the late spring.

There is no public hunting on the new wetlands area.
The previous owner does still maintain hunting rights to the property however.

I thought the land came from the Hunt family.
"Pending approval, the Kaufman County land, formerly the Caroline Hunt Trust Estate, will be known as the Bunker Sands Mitigation Bank."

The water actually goes from the river to the wetlands back to lake Lavon.

We are currently building a building overlooking the wetlands right now.
There is no public access. Yes the owner regulates hunting. I am not sure who they allow, or what. But I do know that they allow it probably corporate favors who you know type deal.
I am not personally involved on the project but know everyone who is. They don't hunt so they send me pictures, and taunt me.

It's got duck, that for sure. I drove past it a couple of weeks ago on the way to Athens. I glanced out there and saw teal dropping in like freakin blackbirds!!!

I am not sure if this is the same wetland that everyone is talking about, but it is in seagoville. http://www.wetlandcenter.com/ Quite a few birds as of teal season. I am helping out with a Texas Youth Hunting Program and local Delta Waterfowl sponsored youth hunt here next weekend. I will try to post the results of the hunt!

There have always been great numbers of birds in the area well before this place came along. Up until spring of 2008 (when it sold to a california A hole) I had exclusive rights to hunt a large corps built pond on some land my family once owned. It was right off of 148 not far at all from the wetlands. Easy to find if you glance at the maps. Absolutely slaughtered ducks there day after day year after year. Ah...the joys of public hunting these days.

Reading from the site, Bunker Sands sounds like he was a man with a plan for the wetlands.
