We are looking at some acreage for sale by Abilene and I was wondering if anyone gives away free pork to the less fortunate families like the disabled and poor? It seems to me to be a good way to help control hogs AND help people in need.
I thought I might give it to them simple for the cost of processing. In some cases, I might let them come kill their own.
The only real cost to me would be bait & feed which I'll do anyhow for the deer.
What is every body's thoughts on this?

I think it would be great , I offered last year to give a family a doe I needed to shoot, they really seemed to need it!!! Lol they said they didn't eat wild game, but most will be appreciative of it especially if you have it processed!

We have trapped and ground up pork as an extension of our Churches food ministries. It helps lots of folks out and gives you an in with them to share your message. We are also involved with Good Samaritan Ministries in Brownwood. The Brownwood Good Sam has processing facilities on sight so you can just drop off a gutted pig or deer and we will do the rest.

Bruton1, I had the same deal several years ago in Wyoming over a goat I butchered. Everything was good until the family discovered it was goat. I guess they were not hungry enough yet.
I kinda figured someone would appreciate my efforts. I think that is better than leaving them for the coyotes and salvagers stinking up the place. I like ministering to people when ever I can, so it will give me a good opening. Now if we can just close a deal on our house so we can get the one we want there.
Jesus had three loaves of bred and three fish and fed the masses. I'll offer a few dead hogs and help as many as I can.

That is a very interesting Ministry. I wonder if there is anything like that around Abilene? http://goodsambwd.org

I wonder why anyone would turn done an opprotunity like that? It sounds like an excellent way to help others. Maybe they would be more interested if we charged them $500 a head like everyone else. I think we sold our house yesterday so if that is the case we should be there as soon as I can get the wiring harness on the front of my Jeep for the tow bar which will be one week from tomorrow when it comes in to the dealership. Then we can look at some properties and make a plan.
What kind of "natural hazards" are there around Abilene and Hawley? 40 foot rattlers, man eating hogzilla's, Holy rolling Bible thumpers? ADHD Southern Bapists?? etc??

Chuck,
When I get back from Afghanistan we can talk if you want. Hogs for a Cause is all about doing exactly that. We have done two helo hunts in Haskell county (just north of Abiline). John 21:17

I'd like to find someone around mount pleasant area to give some hogs to for this type of cause, I only need 2 or 3 eaters for myself for the year, but need to harvest more for pop control, would love to find someone/orginization to donate to in that area. Let me know if anything in mt pleasant/mt vernon area.

I think one of the things I am going to do is to have a talk with the food pantries. May we can all get together and work as a team or something through some churches or organization. We could do a lot of good working as the cleanup crew following a Helo hunt.
