After seeing the thread about the trucks getting stuck, I got to thinking about which vehicle would be best for duck hunting. Jeep? Truck? Some kind of SUV? I think it's got to be 4WD for sure, probably needs some interior room for storing decoys, etc so they don't get stolen.
What do you guys think?

Both of them were 4wd, they were just 150yds out in the lake where they shouldn't have been
I have a Tahoe and haul a Rhino when I go to the lease, only if it is muddy or raining

Okay, so after searching around the forum, I'm surprised to see so much talk about Subarus. Are they really that good? I thought they were only for hippies up in Vermont to use to haul around their kayaks and weed. Something like this? http://www.subaru.com/vehicles/outback/index.html

best depends on where you hunt also... when i get the funds, i plan on finding either a small truck or even a izuzu trooper maybe. something light weight but with room for 4 + gear.

Don't mean to hijack the thread...my hunting rig is for sale! http://easttexas.craigslist.org/cto/3422869673.htmlThe Subaru's are great vehicles...I don't know how great they would be for geting to the duck blind....I would probably say a Jeep would be your best bet as far as not getting stuck....just my two cents

A 4 wheeler, if it gets stuck you get off and push it out or lift out of the hole. 4 wheel drive just gets you farther off the road before you get stuck. Don't ask how I know that
There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Subaru's are God's gift to the outdoorsmen...
the thing about baiting is, even a rookie hunter could have a 170 bird season if they bait holes

Subaru's are God's gift to the outdoorsmen... After doing more research, I am beginning to lean that way. There's a thread on here where a guy who seems to be a big-time duck hunter swears by his Subaru Forester. He says he's never been stuck.

Had a Subaru Forester once upon a time. After market skid plates and such. Lots of fun on improved dirt roads, but not adequate for any lease I've been on in the wet. You cannot get the right kind of tires in the stock tire size for good off road work.
I use a Jeep Cherokee on 33s now. Locked front and rear. Cherokees are fairly light and motor along quite well with fairly agressive tires (not all terrains) So far this year I've pulled out an F150 and an ATV. Fits the dog, the boy, the shotguns and two puddler sized decoy bags.
A buddy of mine had had good luck with a mid to late 90s model 4 runner. Indestructible.
Thought for the day: Ducks were almost hunted to extinction long before camo was invented.

I have hunted off of 4 wheelers joy whole life. They suck so far as a duck vehicle. I just got rid of my Kawasaki 650 and bought a 2 seat Polaris 6 wheeler. I should have done that 10 years ago. The only reason I would get rid of it would be to get the 4 seater.
I had it in a mud hole that I probably should not have been in. I hit the switch to engage the front tires and you can feel the difference. I can carry a whole lot more and be comfortable.

Forgot on thing.
You also need to check the approach angle on the Subaru. If I remember correctly, it was pretty shallow on my forester. One of the prime reasons I went to the aftermarket front skid plate.

Good gosh, get a dangtruck. Something with 4 wheel drive, single cab, can pull a boat if need be. Has a bed for decoys and whatever else. A truck to get dirty and the inside gets full of mud...don't think too hard on all of this. Every vehicle can get stuck. If you can't stick it then let me try.
