I am wanting a 2013 Polaris 800 Crew. Up in the air about the extra seat. The wife and a few friends keep telling me I will never need the extra seating, it weighs more, length is 2.5' longer and to just get the regular Ranger and to even go with the 500 as the only difference in the 800 is 5-10 MPH of top end.
Just curious of a some our your opinions that have bought a crew and if it is as versatile as a regular Ranger with a single seat and thoughts on the 800 vs. 500.
Thanks for any input.
Justin

It depends on how often you haul more than 2 passengers. I have a 500 (Series 11) and had a rear seat put in the bed. It doesn't interfere with loads. Here is a thread with a picture: Rear Seat I put some padded folding stadium seats on it & it rides real nice. You have to watch for low branches and hard turns lest your "rear seat" passengers will get more of a thrill than they wanted. The Crew Rangers are nice, but they are long and almost as big as my Tacoma.

Crew is the only way I will roll. To many times more people than seats. Even with a high rack

What I can tell you about the crew is that it is longer and you will want the larger engine if you haul heavey loads or full of people in rugged or rough terrain. The power is needed for a loaded down ride. Also the back seat area gets all the dirt and debris that is whirling around as your drive. Really bad on dusty ranch roads. Also look under the seats and check how they are mounted. The year models I have been on all have seat problems after a while. The way the seat attaches to the body is with plastic stud bolts and plastic tabs. The seat support brackets are spaced and fall out causing the seats to collapse and then brake the front plastic mounting studs. The seat then slide forward when driving down hill. The new models may be improved. I have a 2007 Ranger XP single seat and the studs are bolts and not plastic and never had an issue like the newer 2 crew models.

The crews are nice but why not buy a jeep or other 4x4 that could also go on the road too....for the price you could get a very good used one

My pickup will go anywhere I need or want to drive, and will probably go down all the senderos and ranch roads alot of the folks drive that have the utvs drive on, it is heated cooled and is probably quieter too.

i like the new ranger 800 crews. very nice machines. however they are pricey.
we have a crew cab mule 3010 and a reg. cab 3010 and the crew sees alot of use, its great when we have friends down and like another poster said, its better to not need it and have it than the other way around.
as for the jeep comments, it depends on what terrain your traveling. most places in south texas Id just as soon drive my truck but get up into the hill country and I'd take the UTV every time
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Have the 2011 Trans 4010 Kawasaki here, never had the back seat down but it's there if you need it. Mule rides like a mule. Rough!

I had a single cab Rhino and loved it. Traded it in and bought a crew and couldn't be more happy with the purchase. I got a real good deal through Hofpauir in Goldthwaite.
If I rhode hard I would have kept the Rhino but i went for the Cadillac. More people = more fun. I haven't had anywhere I wanted to get and couldn't in the crew cab.
I didn't buy a jeep because I wanted a UTV to ride through the pasture, to the stand, and around the place.

Lonnie, Do you see the dust swirling in the back seat as mentioned above? Also, how is the suspension? I really like your setup and thats the look I am going for!
I have tried the Jeep thing and just dont like them. The suspension on the Jeeps makes for a horrible ride through rough terrain.
I just sold a single cab 2009 Rhino 700cc and it was a cadillac, I could hit cattle gaurds at 30-40mph and not even notice it due to the awesome suspension.
Thanks for all the input,

Yes the dirt does get bad in the back seats on the 2 seaters. Sunglasses are needed if you wear contacts lenses.

Dirt is also bad around your feet in the front seat also if you buy oversize tires on dusty roads. The Ranger will out perform a Jeep in rough rocky terrain off the road. We hunt out of them in West Texas and love them. You can go places that you would never dream of. The ride in a Ranger is hands down better than the Jeep I had and you can not even put the Mule in the same sentence. Mule will beat you to death in rough country. I wish I had pics of my buddies Ranger Crew after a week of Mule Deer hunting till he cleaned it out. Adding the roof makes the dust swirl a little worse. Add a windshield and you will not believe the amount you get on dusty roads at mid range speeds. Get the dealer to let you go on a test ride off road on a dusty road as part of the sale if you want to see if or how bad the dust will be on the backseat area.

You know as far as the dust goes, its bad at times. Had a client tell me about his experences with using a plastic tarp behind his second seat. He told me that is almost stopped the dust problem, now I have not tried it yet. So not sure myself, but sounds good.

We have 2 of the crew and they are a great option. It is always better to have more seating. We also have the high racks for extra people if we need to.

Yes the windshield causes more of a draft. I have been told if you buy a rear cover it will eliminate lot of the dust inside the cab. There are several different kinds available. Mesh or a solid window

Just my two cents but have u looked at other brands? I was convinced i wanted a ranger until i talked to my neighbor who is a polaris mechanic here in san angelo at our dealership. He makes a good living on the side repairing customers rides at his home. I told him i was looking at one and he begged me to get a kawasaki. Thats how i ended up with my teryx4. It rides so much better than a ranger and he hasnt had a single one in for service yet. May want to take a test drive in some others. Like i said....just my opinion and experience.

Yes I looked at a Teryx, but the two my friends have are always in the shop one with a complete top end replacement and the other keeps having starting issues. It may be a fluke. I wish that Yamaha would make a Rhino 4 seater as I wouldn't even have this question. I had my rhino for 3 years and it never needed anything but an oil change from time to time.
Still up in the air, but need to make a decision soon.
Thanks for all the input guys.

i built a shooting bench for my buddy my only complaint about the polaris is the plastic dump bed , if you build a bench you got to keep it light , too much weight causes the plastic to warp, and he had some tire defect issues
