I would think you'd be fine with anything from a .223 up
Personally I'd take my .308 and shoot em with my 150gr Hornady A-max's

They are big but I assume still light skinned! I would stay north of .243

Have u see " The Grey?". If not you need to watch it before you go.. I was joking with my brother about watchyping "the edge" before he went to Alaska... I would think a .223 would be a little light. .243 sounds good ..

I saw a video where a 204 rolled one. Personally if I would use it on a deer then I'd use it on a wolf. 308 would definitely be my first pick though, and it's spelled "caliber"

I shot a young yearling male timber wolf at my camp in ontario. He weighed 88 pounds as a 8 month old pup, saying it was born that spring & the shot was in october. I drilled him at 60 yards with a 150 grain .270 and a clean in-out pencil sized hole. A big male will near 160 pounds, so pack for bear. I would go with nothing less than .243, and expecting a long-g-g shot, a 25-06 may be better. They are very smart, and illusive. I have my wolf mounted on a pedastal/coffee table, awesome in the cabin. I spent 15 summers running my fishing lodge in remote Ontario, and during that time I only seen 3 wolves in the wild even though they were all around. Good Luck!

Not ever having shot a wolf, my thinking on this might be wrong, but if you are going to shoot something then there is the chance that you will be tracking that something. I don't want to track a wolf that was wounded with a 223. I'd go for bigger artillery.

Given the size of these animals I believe I would use my .270

^^^^ Nope and thank goodness, my uncle had a tag in Montana this year. Didn't see any, but the outfitters are not happy with the wolves. They are killing off to many game animals. Those suckers are big..243 and up

This is the first year we have been allowed to get rid of them here in minnesota and its about time there begining to be a problem up north. I would say a 243 and up should be ok a 223 would do the job but you want to put him down not have to track for miles

22/250 works really well.

After talking with the guide, he said they have been using 223 and have not had any problems. He said like all animals, shot placement is key! He said we will be shooting out from about 250 on up some times they will be closer, but don't count on it. They are going to be doing fly overs to find them and we will horse back in to the locatIon. Right now they are still considered a varmint/predator and are up for shooting. If my spelling is off some where, I apologize in advance..

25-06 and up should do the trick. My mother had some in her yard last winter in MI. Unfortunately still no hunting season there yet.

243 or more. I shoot 308 on stuff that you could kill with a 22. It's still dead and if I get a shot at a big deer or an aoudad I'm good. Bring enough gun.

If you want to mount this animal then keep that in mind. Too big of an exit hole and it will mess up mount. .223 and 22/250 are nice rounds with plenty of stopping power. Wouldn't go larger than a .243. All 3 of the above mentioned rounds still have alot of speed at that distance. If you are going to be shooting 250 yds then practice at that range and make it count. Good luck.

Well we hunted pretty hard for 3 days and came up empty handed. Saw plenty of wildlife but no wolfs. Ran into sheep, elk, moose, coyotes but the wolfs eluded us. MAybe this October when i go for an elk hunt we close th deal on a wolf also. Decided to use my AR 223/5.56 with a 24 inch White Oak barrel. Distance was not an issue but just didnt run across any.
