Well as usual my deer hunt broke out into a hog hunt! We had rattled and stalked some little bucks that I wasn't real interested in, then on our way to the next stand we ran across some fresh hog sign! My buddy and I split up to about 75 yards apart and started stalking the thick woods. He knew where they'd likely be and where they would run to once the fun started. Well, he jumped them up but didn't get a shot, and only one little spotted pig ran my way. Dang. Well once we got back together he was telling me how many hogs he saw, possibly 20 or more...but where did they go!?

We decided to head back to the truck but on the way he wanted to show me a bedding spot of a huge black boar that he had seen the other day. This particular place has an extremely large hog that we've all seen but never gotten a shot at and we intended to check that bedding spot to see if there was either a hog in it, or look for signs that might indicate the size of the hog that hangs out there. So there we were, just walking along the creek, weapons shouldered, talking quietly, when about 20 pigs just materialized out of the brush right in front of us! They paused before going down the steep banks, basically waiting for everybody to get in line and follow the trail, when they spotted us. We had already gone into that slow mo reality where guns were being unslung while pigs were beginning to freak out...and then it was ON! I hit this pig with my first shot, and got at least one bullet into another pig as he climbed the bank on the other side coming out of the creek. When I looked back, my first hog was flopping around heavily and managed to slide down the steep bank. Well I managed to make it down the bank without falling on the pig or into the water and found him not very dead at all! He jumped up and turned towards me and if I hadn't shot when I did he would've hit the end of my barrel with his snout!

Fun times!

Fun stuff right there.
