I'm an inexperienced deer hunter, but her is my observations from my day trip this past Saturday. I've been trying to get information about the rut and if it has happened yet. As far as I know the answer is no, but this weekend for the first time I saw bucks during the day moving. Once one was with a doe, but I did not notice any chasing. Could this be the pre rut?

Are you sure? I've been reading that it usually starts around Thanksgiving, but I've also heard anytime in the 1st 2 weeks of December. Been trying to get information on the rut there for the last month, and gotten no responses.

Dang I hope you are wrong. Either way this was the 1st time that I've seen multiple bucks much less a single one during the day.

It depends where you are at in the county I'm between Hondo and Yancey and the bucks are still running does. I am in the blind right now watching them run. I can't tell you how much longed it's going to occur.

We saw our first rut activity last weekend (Dec 15th). It could have been the second round of it but the bucks we have were running does pretty hard at sunrise. We're not having much activity on evening hunts due to a lot of deer moving from about midnight to 2 in the morning according to our pictures. We are in between D'hanis and Yancey.

I'm officially in Yancy off of FM 2200. About 10 miles down the road from Devine. This past weekend is the first time I've seen bucks during the day. Only one that may be worthy of shooting, but probably better to wait another year. We'll see if I can hold off if presented the opportunity.
