My father in law lives there and has killed several nice deer. He got a 9 pts this year that will flirt with 140-145. Last year a typical 12 that went right at 150. Still getting really nice pics of two more good deer. He live about 10 miles outside of Terrell to the south

Ruts fixing to start and might have even started at our place (dryden). Hard to say how the herd your going to hunt is going to look but ours are fat, course they should be as much as we give them to eat. You might take some alfalfa with you and break it up and place in different places, if it's cold they will come to it. Do you know where the ranch your hunting is at?

I believe it's the Harkin's Ranch according to the paperwork I received. I've hunted Seminole Canyon S.P. before, so, I kind of get a feel of what the layout of the land should be. I'm just wondering if any drought or disease has affected the deer population down there. I've been receiving mixed reports. Some good, some terrible. I'm looking forward to being there regardless, and hope for a great hunt. Thx for your updates.

This is what our place pretty much looks like, we have more brush than most but there are a few pockets of brush here & there. We haven't had any disease but that doesn't mean it's not out there.

Our lease is between Sheffield and Sanderson. I spent 10 days there starting the day aft Thanksgiving and it doesnt look like our horns did very well this year. Plus the moon was so bright and up all night while I was there, but I checked my cameras and didn't have any worth getting excited about. I'm going back the day after Christmas so hopefully a big boy steps out.

I saw more mule deer last trip than I usually see, but all had small racks as well.

I hunted on the Harkins ranch last year on a TPWD management hunt with two of my buddies. We saw lots of deer and the people there were great. We enjoyed our hunt and came home with lots of meat. Although the paperwork says it is for a 8 point buck, it is actually a hunt for them to clear out inferior bucks that they don't want to breed. We saw lots of really nice racked bucks but there is a guide with you and you can only shoot what they determine is a cull buck. Great people there on the Harkins ranch and all in all we enjoyed ourselves. Hope you have a great time, we did.

I figured it would be a cull hunt. Although it would be nice to see some big racked bucks. Thanks Rene.
