I left large pumpkins out for the hogs a few times. It took a fews days for the hogs to find them but, they did find them and ate them up.Drug a dead horse to the back pasture one time to bury. The hogs found him first and ate him too.only found part of a hoof..

Yep it works great turkeys love them too. Pumpkins are a natural wormer for chickens and goats so we always pick up spoiled pumpkins and bust them open for the critters. I have game cam pics of coyotes eating them too. This time a year most places give them away free when they start to deflate.

That's a great idea. Never thought about it. We always use them for exploding target practice

Tried pumpkins twice. They rotted on the ground. Not even the deer or coons bothered them. Pumpkins are a natural wormer for chickens and goats ... This sounded interesting and so I googled it. People pumpkins to deworm everything from horses to tortoises, including other livestock and people. Something interesting that came about from reading various articles is that none indicatd what the component was that performed universally against worms (seeds, rind, goo) or if it worked equally well raw, heated, roasted, as soup, dried, etc. Nobody knew what chemical or feature that actually attacked the worms and made them leave. So it sounds like a homeopathic myth. I then came across this article... http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/10/chickens-pumpkin-seeds-and-worms-oh-my.htmlBasically, there is no research to show pumpkins or their relatives are effective at deworming. They do contain an amino acide that can help with deworming, but concentrations vary and nobody seems to know how much it takes to actually produce any results. It certainly doesn't hurt and pumpkins are definitely food. Interesting consideration.

a dewormer?...just another reason to have that next slice of pumpkin pie.... Really, I guess I don't have to worry about worms either... You can call me a hog and bait me with a baked pumpkin: Cut open the top and scoop out the seeds. Then add cinnamon, a little honey or brown sugar, and 1/4" slice of butter. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until soft. Add a couple of scoops of ice cream. Call me at... Back on topic... I have really not seen anything pull hogs in. They hit corn if it is out, but one day they will be all over it and the next they will pass on by or not show up at all. I have tossed all kinds of things out by my feeders and tubes and have never seen any discernible pattern while hunting or on game cameras. I would love to find a way to pull in a hog the way a squealing call brings in a coyote, but I have yet to find one. I think having a consistent source of food is the best way to keeps hogs coming in on a regular basis. I try to double or triple up. I have a hog tube under a pecan tree surrounded by oaks, next to a stock tank and even then it can be hit and miss. -ww
A thousand reasoned opinions never equal to one case of diving in and finding out.

Yep! pumpkins make great hog chum or deer bait! Over here, the deer will kill the pumpkins before the hogs get it! Split open with a machte in 1/4's or 1/8's and they will have a big feasts! If you have a feeder out with game camera set it up and see what happens! Your animals will love you for it!

I set two out at my hog feeder after Halloween and they were gone through very quickly. I cracked them open/smashed so that the scent would get out.
From what I could tell they enjoyed them! I hear they like Watermelons as well.
