Hey guys looking for some help. I have always wanted to get a place up in the Matador, Childress area to hunt. Land seems hard to come by there though. Is it hard to find a place in the area because the hunting is so good that people don't give up their leases? What kind of deer come out of that area?

I am an outfitter here in the Childress area that you are talking about. The genetics here in the whitetail deer are great. The closer you get to the Red River in this area, the bigger the deer seem to get. That's not to say that the country around Matador doesn't produce some great deer as well. It's just that the big ones seem to occur more often a little farther North. Last year, I know of at least nine deer that came out of Childres, Hardeman, and Collingsworth Counties that broke 180". There were a pretty sizable number that I know of that broke 170". If you are looking for a place to hunt up here, you should give me call. 940-453-4224 Chad.

My family is going into a lease with Chad at Buck Creek Outfitters. He is straight up with you and has good hunting land available. I would recommend him to anyone looking for good places around the Childress/Matadore area. Good luck.

Real big bodied deer, at least from my experience. They are really thick up there too. My g pa has a farm in quanah and my buddy and i consistently had 15 to 20 dear come into the field we were hunting each hunt.

30 years ago we saw mostly Muleys in Collingsworth County, a few Whitetails on Buck creek and the Salt Fork. Now it is not uncommon to see 50 to 60 Whitetails in our Wheat field. I got off a lease in Menard county back in 98, since I would see more deer in Wellington when I went up for the holidays and way better horns.

I USE TO HUNT IN COLLINSWORTH CTY. WE HAD A 15 AC.WHEATFIELD ON OUR LEASE THAT BACKED UP TO 1500 AC.THAT WASN'T HUNTED THAT FIELD WOULD LOAD UP WITH 30 TO 50 DEER CLOSE TO HALF OF THEM WOULD BE BUCKS.SEEN SOME MONSTER DEER AT THE MEAT LOCKER IN WELLINGTON.COLLINSWORTH CTY.IS A VERY POPULAR PLACE NOWADAYS SINCE HUNT BOY KILLED THAT 230 ABOUT 4 YRS AGO.IF YOU EVER GET THE CHANCE TO GET ON A PLACE YOU BETTER JUMP ON IT BECAUSE ITS NOT GETTING ANY CHEAPER UP THERE.

nothing but red dirt only see whitetail every now and then go south thast where the big ones are remember the golden triangle nothing in the panhandle but some little rungs and a few and I mean very few ole raghorn mulies. Go south!
