When I got here, a Jewish gentleman said "shalom". I said, "ola, buenos dias". Got a blank stare & he said again "shalom", I said "ola, como estas". He just stared at me. Another gentleman said, "he doesn't understand what you're saying". I smiled and said, "good, at least we're on the same page now". I need to brush up on my Hebrew apparently........

Def. would be the most historic trip and emotional trip of a persons life...

Yes it is safe here, Israel is safer than Houston/New Orleans by a long shot. The best places to go and see are all within a couple hours of the airport. We hired a recommended local taxi/bus driver to get us around. I would never try & drive here, these people drive crazy! I don't know about the weather Jan-April, but it's Winter here now & not bad at all. The areas of concern, (as far as possible terrorist activities), are around the Gaza strip and are off limits to us. I feel more comfortable now then when I first arrived. What really freaked me out was the Orthodox Jew sitting next to me on the plane on the way over. He stood up next to me & started performing his prayer ritual. I didn't know what to think, should I restrain this guy? WTH we're on a plane, WTH are you doing but then looked around & saw there were quite a few doing this. Once I learned they were peaceful I calmed down This South Texas red neck had never seen that before

First of all, it is very safe,,,keep in mind you are talking about the I D F we make sure that Israel is safe!! and as far as the car rental,, you can drive from the very north to the very south of Israel in about 7 hours its about 450 miles long,and east to west is about 25 miles at the widest point,the weather would be at its best in March or April,but with the Passover at the same time prices will be on the high end.
If you stay in Tel Aviv (the center of Israel)you can drive to the north in about one and a half hours and to Jerusalem in one hour, then you leave Tel Aviv and the next part of your trip will be the south,the Dead Sea,and Eilat the Red Sea(the south of France of the Middle East),you would spend two nights at the Dead Sea and drive south to the Red Sea (Eilat) and there you can spend two to three nights,you will have the time of your life!!!!!
Now as far as the Terrorists go,,,,,,,hey from what I remember I think we (the I D F )killed most of their top ones,about four weeks ago,and if we forgot any of them let us know.
So I am sure you will be safe in Israel, we the people of Israel do very much appreciate the Love and support from the Christian community and the people of the United States and we will MAKE SURE that when you are gusts in our country you will be as safe as you are at home, and no harm comes your way.
