A guy shoots a deer in the afternoon, puts the deer (buck) in a cooler without gutting it, brings it to the taxi/processor and is told the meat is bad. He says its ok he just wants the cape.... true story of a Taylor county dumbarse

Yeah, I would have given him a personal, hand-written invitation to visit with the local JP.

Waste of game / failure to keep the edible portions of the animal in an edible condition = class C misdemeanor.

This happens more than you might think, unfortunately.

If you had a CCW you could have held him @ gun point until the GW arrived.

I have wondered about this with ducks. Obviously the practice must be ok to waste the game of a duck for taxidermy since it happens all the time, but I have heard of people saving like 3 of the same species to take to a taxi so he could tell them which one is the best quality. SO what do they do with the others beside waste them??

I've heard stories of an unnamed processor in the area that would've just thrown that deer in the pile with the others to be processed. Good on the processor for refusing it, bad on the DB hunter-he should have his license revoked immediately.
Old age ain't for sissies!

If you had a CCW you could have held him @ gun point until the GW arrived. Article 14.01(a) of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure permits private citizens to make arrests only if the offense is classed as a felony or as an offense against the public peace. Texas has many legal provisions that allow an individual to carry a weapon, including a firearm, with a permit. The idea behind allowing people to own and carry a weapon is that, should the need arise, they have the ability to defend themselves. However, there are certain restrictions surrounding when you may display and use your weapon. Whenever you point any weapon at another person, you are brandishing a weapon. If you brandish a weapon, even in self-defense, you may find yourself facing assault charges. I hope that you were joking. If not, giving advice like this could cause someone to go to jail, or even worse, be killed. Pulling a firearm on anyone is never a joke and never should be taken lightly.
