I shot a vey unique buck, and took it to get euro mounted. Picked it up and it was bleached out, painted over, part of the main beam had been puddied up, it was discolored. My heart sank when I saw it. I am absolutely sick. What, if anything, can be done to make it look good?

Yeah it can be worked on and made to look better, just find a a good taxi sure someone can recommend one in your area.
Post pic of the entire skull.
Can't really see what you are showing in first pic.

Those are the only pics I have. First picture is of the base. It clearly got boiled, and painted over. Problem is the paint cracked and chipped off. If you look in the very middle of the picture, that is the big chip. This deer had very dark antlers, and now its been bleached and repainted. And at a much lighter color. The dark antlers kinda made me decide on a euro instead of a shoulder mount, cause I like the contrast. But they butchered it big time.
I know in the scheme of life, this is small, but I am really disappointed.

Surely they will make it right if not a good taxi can.

BTW, the puddied up part was part that THEY messed up. It was a perfectly fine main beam. The beam looked like it got boiled, brittle, and either broke or flaked off.
I feel like I can't trust any taxidermist. This was one of the most unique bucks I've ever seen. When it's back in my possession, I'll post full pictures of it.

I think you're right to at least give the taxi a chance to make it good for you. If you've been a good customer in the past and he wants to keep your business, then he'll make you happy.
You might also take a kill picture with you so he can duplicate the color of the antlers.
I picked up a grizzly rug yesterday morning from a local taxidermist that I used for the first time. I was generally happy with the quality and the timeliness of completion. But the guy charged me $200 more than he'd quoted. When I showed him the written estimate, he told me that the lady who sews the felt backing for his rugs went up on her price. But since I was happy with the work, I went ahead and paid the extra amount......but I told him I was a little disappointed in the final bill. I wish I'd driven the extra 150 miles to my old taxidermist.
The point being......chit happens, with taxidermy work just like anything else. I say give the guy a chance to make you happy. If he doesn't, tell him you'll kindly be taking your future business elsewhere.

That sucks Justin. Hope they make it right.
Dawaba, I believe a quote is a quote even if I am happy with the work or not. If you can't stand behind your written quote as a business, I wouldn't trust you to do any of my work. I work in construction and if I give a price, that is the price...regardless.

I wouldn't give him a chance to fix anything. Count your losses get it in your possession as soon as possible before he tries to "fix" it some more then take it to a real taxidermist that can do the work right. Might wanna check some work and references on the new guy.

Justin, you need to come and take a look at Mike's tine and antler repair work. Right now we have an elk in there where he replaced 30 inches and nobody has been able to find it yet. From what I have seen in the pic Mike can make that damage on the antlers disappear. Would have to see the rest of the skull to see what they did on it but I pretty much already know.

Never put it on the client.

Unreal.
The beam was probably laying in the boiling water with a checmical mixed in that WAS NOT supposed to be in there. Probably bleach.
I can't believe taxi's (or a so called taxi) allows this kind of work to leave their shop.
Says alot of their work ethic and business practices.
Any good skull taxi OR regular taxi ought to be able to help.
It can be fixed probably, but will end up costing you double or triple the price of the existing skull price.
Sucks that they screwed it up.

Who screwed it up? Post the name. It could save a fellow THFer some reouble. I will hold off for now and give them a chance to right their wrong. My lesson learned from this is I will only be taking euro mounts to someone that doesn't boil, or do it myself. Obviously they set it and walked away. Mistakes do happen, but they have handled it poorly so far. No appology, no offer of money back. I'll probably pick it up Saturday, will let you know of the resolution.

So you took it back to the taxi that screwed it up from the start?

So you took it back to the taxi that screwed it up from the start? Yes, I am giving them a chance to right it. I doubt they will right it to my standards, though.

Actually, I love fruit cake.....just had a slice with my morning coffee.
And my tractor needs washing far worse than my car.
This winter, I'm gonna try again for a big tom mnt lion in NM. Thinking I'll let "ladytaxi" on here do the mount, should I be successful. Or perhaps someone can recommend a Texas taxidermist who does neat lifesize cats?
OP, any updates on the re-work on your euro?
