I have a trap i built for tight places 8lx5wx4'h caught one hog bout 325lbs early in spring hve bated it all thru summer n deer season no hogs. They are comin to it n rootn all around it but not goin in , they are even trying to root at end of trap to get under so corn n bait food will fall so they dont hve to go in. Cant figure it out. Its made of hog panel sides top n bottom. Wudnt think its too small ive caught hogs in smaller traps. I dnt kno wuts up i mean they are diggin the bait usually corn n sweet feed with big red poured on top. With some hog wild on it. Any thoughts. Only thing i can think of is door is made of 3/4" ply would that slides down behind them when they spring trap cud the solid door be spookin them.

That could be it. Do shut the door when your not at the lease? I wire mine open when i am not there to get them used to going in and out.

I do wire door open when not in use always mainly on account of calves or deer gettin into trap but also to get hogs use to goin inside n i do move trap not regularly but i hve other traps that r built different n hve no probs catchin hogs in them just this one . May hve to sell it or just retire it

Move it to a different location. I keep mine wired open and have a feeder that throws twice a day. I have the trap set to where most of the corn falls behind the trigger.

You have to remember that they are monadic animals. I will have times where I will catch them for a few weeks in a row then nothing for a while. Not even on camera.

Did you shoot the hog in the trap or are you loading and selling them? Reason I ask is because from experience hogs tend not to go into traps that other hogs were shot in. They eventually will go back in the traps, but I have seen it take a long, long time. About 2 weeks ago, we caught 8 hogs in a smaller sized trap. We shot all of them in the trap. We have not had a single hog set foot in the trap since. They are still going in and out of our other trap, but the door is wired open. Same thing last year. We shot two hogs in the trap and never caught another one the rest of the season. But our traps are staked down and not mobile. If you move them, sometimes it makes a difference but not always.

peacans and acorns on the ground, other guys feeders still going off, and pressure from deer hunters has them easier eating and less risky eating.

couple of things to try:

1. go to the day old bread store and get some cheap buns and flour torillas and pour molases on them and put in the trap. give them something different to choose from. don't forget to get enough for the raccoons.

2. dig a hole and put your mix in it (same mix i use) and get them use to going to that spot, then move the trap over the spot and try there.

scent control is key in all this.
