How do they work? Are they accurate? I saw the video they sent me and I'm interested in them. I was planning on the 308 tsx bullets for deer, hogs, javies, and maybe a elk hunt. I've heard people say that they like factory ammo the best, and that's all I've shot. But I just wanted to know what y'all think about them. And one question that's real important to me. Will they drop a deer in its tracks? I hate tracking, I've used bullets that are 20 years old and left a hole in a deer that you couldnt put your finger in, but dropped the deer in its tracks. And I'm fine with that, no tracking. But if it leaves a big hole and a blood trail then I don't wanna use it. What is y'all favorites?

I think you are chasing a pipe dream if you are looking for a particular bullet that will "drop a deer right there". By and large, it is the PLACEMENT of the bullet, more than the brand of bullet, that will confer DRT status to your quarry. My experience will suggest that violently expanding bullets will more likely find more success in dropping the deer right there, but meat loss will be excessive and you run the risk of such poor penetration that you may have a long tracking job to do anyway. When it comes to handling deer-sized animals, any cup-and-core bullet will be quite reliable, and if the shooter carefully executes a "high pocket" shot--high shoulder shot that breaks the scapula and vertebral column--he will have his trophy deer dead in its tracks. Rather than search for the magic bullet, practice making the shots that will drop the deer right there. (FWIW, I'll be leaving Monday morning for an elk hunt. The rifle will be a 7mm RM featuring Barnes 140 gr TTSX bullets.)

I'm not sold on them but a lot of people are. As BMD stated "run light for caliber", there are 2 reasons for this 1.) They need velocity to perform as advertised and 2.) Being solid copper they are lighter than cup and core therefore require more surface area of bullet to achieve the desired weight.

They look like solid bullets, does anyone else have something to add?

I agree with Dawaba and Dee, the only way to really be certain of dropping a deer or about anything else is to takeout the central nervous system, sure a few drop in their tracks from lung shots but most will not.
I am not convinced on them yet, cup and core or the other premium bullets are my choice. I have seen some very good accuracy from them from sum guns but not all. I will stick to Nosler Partitions or Accubonds or Swift Siroccos for most of my hunting and never feel that I need more bullet than those designs deliver.

I shoot 120 gr TTSX out of my 7mm-08 and 7mm Mag. No complaints so far. Both hold under an inch group, 0.656" in my Savage 08. So far performance has been DRT hunting.

When I said drt shot I meant central shoulder are, maybe high or low, left or right, but central shoulder mainly.

Central shoulder will not always give you a drt result no matter what bullet is used.

I've shot 110gr TTSX in a 300 Blackout - they opened as advertised at that speed - It was the best bullet I tried for pigs out of the 300BO and I tried lots of bullet combos.
I've had really good luck with the 95gr TTSXs in my 6.8x43. It's been the bomb on pigs so far.
The downside is bullets are usually over twice the cost of most most cup and core bullets of the same size/weight. The cost has me testing 120gr Hornady SSTs to feed the 6.8.... Also just ordered some 70gr TSXs for my 223 as they were on sale...should be fun to play with from a 24" 223 wylde 1/8 w/target crown...a buddy has a 18" 223 wylde 5R 1/8 barrel that should like them also.

As BMD said go light for caliber I shoot 100gr TSX in my .257wby at 3600fps and I have only recovered 1 of them from game. This bullet killed 3 hogs it hit hog 1 and mushroomed, hit hog 2 and completely penetrated side to side fully mushroomed and then hit hog 3 and penetrated all the way to the skin on the opposite. These hogs were standing shoulder to shoulder eating and went through them shoulder to shoulder.....with 93% weight retention.

I've shot them for years, and they take a little patience, a lot of gun cleaning, and an eye to reloading. But once you have the loads they are awesome, and you can reduce the size of the projectile and get the same or better performance than a conventional bullet. I shoot them in my two 308's the Rem has a 1 in 12 twist, and the TRG 1 in 11..they both shoot 130, 150, & 165-8 grain projectiles mostly in the same hole or at least in less than 1/2 MOA..I shot a 22-250 and used it on culls for 10 yrs without a problem..only one 55 grain Barnes works there..Don

My experience with barnes.
If you break both shoulders DRT and they are great with minimal meat/hide damage.
Slip one into the lungs and results vary greatly from drt to long lite blood trails.
Like others have siad run them light for cal and as fast as you can make them go and if I am hunting with them unless it is an Ultra fast cal like 257 wby or 22250 or someting of the sort I wont shoot unless Im hitting bone.
It's hell eatin em live

One thing I have noticed is that a lot of guys here talk about shoulder shooting or lung shooting deer. Personally we try to eat what we kill, want them all DRT, no tracking, no excitement, and no meat destroyed more than is possible. Try neck and head shots if not on trophies..granted you only bone out the shoulder for grind, but it's not like they are beef or really large..I spent about 8 to 10 yrs hunting w/my buddy's Doc's who were fishermen..and golfers..they all got to where they were excellent rifle shots..and very good bird shots..but not without encouragement..Take your time and bench rest those kills where possible. It is more humane and easier on you in the long run.Don

I use Barnes 70% of the time with 20% Nosler Partition and 10% other (usually this other is for my military surplus rifles).
I've never had one fail me...yet. I shot my mule deer last year at 300 yds with .270 Win a 140 gr. TSX. It entered the front of the chest and lodged in his pelvis for 30"+ of penetration and 100% weight retention. Can't ask for much more in my book.

Some of you questioned the accuracy of Barnes..I'd suggest that in weapons that had questionable accuracy that a really good cleaning was in order.. The solid copper pill requires a clean bore..not one fowled w/lead, powder, and jackets from several boxes of other projectiles..Most do not clean their weapons well, and I've seen a lot at the Gun Club in the last 25 plus years that never really cleaned one..It's not that hard just a little different routine than running 10 or 15 patches and hoppes, You must use a good solvent..Like Bore Tech Eliminator,Barnes , ect..and you must clean down to the bore..DD

One must also remember, as mentioned earlier, that a lighter bullet may be needed since they tend to be longer and stabilize easier.
