So.. I ordered a dozen of the Duke dog-proof coon traps.. and I have a bag o' marshmellows as well as a couple cans of sardines to pour over them...
I am going out the weekend of the 15th and, brotha, am I going to clean house...
So.. what do we do with the dadgum coons.. besides throw their corn-stealin butts in a pile...

I have them and you will catch one in every trap at first. I use sardines and nothing else. Make sure you push the sardines down behind the trigger. Make them suckers work for it! Have fun and we just pile them up!
Shhhhhhhh better to be quiet than remove all doubt..

if they're coming to an area regularly, try using whole corn in them. One of the guy's on the lease had some corn and set a trap by the gate, when he saw tracks in the road, caught one the same night. Saw tracks this past weekend, reached in the bag of corn poured small handfull in it. Had coon by 9:30 pm that night. I just pile them up as well. will skin a couple later this year and try to get the wife to make a couple of hats out of them.

You could eat them. They're a lot better than you might think.

They're made out of meat, just like deer and pigs. Taste even better. Never had armadillo. How was it? I wouldn't think it's very good, but I don't know.

I have the dog proof trap thingy and use Boy Scout popcorn (caramel works best). Had great results. And since I seem to have extra every year it all works out.

I am sure folks eat them, and if someone else cooked it and ate it, I am sure I would be like, "ok.. I'll try it".. hell.. ate rattlesnake once and that smelled like hell... heh
Armadillo, what I remember, was pretty good, sorta like pork, but my dad cooked it in a lot of grease years ago with salt and pepper. We only ate it because, after he shot it, he felt bad about just killing something and not teaching his kids to eat what you shoot.
That was then, this is now, and I have enough meat in the freezer to not worry about eating a coon.. heh
Again, not against it.. just don't see it as appetizing till proven different :P
Looking forward to the traps. I have not seen a good video that does more than show caught coons or setting the trap, not baiting it. I assume stuffing a large marshmallow below the bar inside and then pouring sardine "sauce" over the marshmallow would be enough to entice them and trip the thing.

I've had coon before, not half bad bbq'd. We've used sardines before and had great luck, we've used marshmellows as well with good results.

If you have em you may as well skin em. It ain't hard and they bring $5 or so a piece. Freeze em and sell a few dozen at a time, that will fill a feeder for a couple months. If I only catch one or two I just put em in the freezer till the next year they will still sell.

There's a couple guys that run routes depending on where you are and they can be dried and mailed to a couple fur auctions. Look at Texas fur trapper website I believe they have a list of buyers. I know R-P from Louisiana had a guy that ran a North Texas route. I've sold several cats to him.

sell the hides . Take the meat and boil it like you would ribs then toss the meat in a slow cooker with your favorite BB-Q sause and a couple chopped peppers of choice.
Tastes just as good if not better than pulled pork . Serve on a bun with chips and a good pickle .
A body at rest tends to stay at rest. A body in motion tends to be lookin for a place to rest.

You can also sell the meat. I know a few guys that sell them for around 8$ a coon...Just finish them like any other animal and leave one hind foot on them so you can tell what it is. Also I use catfood that is fish based, easy to carry and no mess and it works just fine. I used to use fish paste and sardines but it gets messy and stinky...
