I've never had a run in with a GW. The only time my license has been checked was by a couple if wise county deputies while night fishing a large creek on some back road.
I would like to meet the GW(s) in eastland co.

my oldest son hit one in the junk. He was 6 at the time. Dad said they were kind of joking around at the camphouse, and my son popped him in the junk. His partner was a female and she laughed her head off. I came back to camp and got a ticket because my hunters safety id wasnt on my license. Thankfully it was a fix it ticket, and i wont get cited for it again. My dad said the warden looked like he was gonna puke.

2 encounters:
Warden Al Marble in Michigan: a gentleman
Warden Einar Palm in Colorado: also a gentleman
Both were professionals and really fine men.

We have had a GW in camp at least once every year, usually more. We have a new GW as of a couple years ago and have not had the pleasure of meeting him yet. 16 years ago, the local GW was a jerk and would threaten tickets for crazy things, but everyone we have had since has been very courteous and professional. Many times they stick around and bs at the fire for hours.

Jack County - Gary Hobbs!

Tries to get to every camp each year. You got your stuff together & no problems. "Minor" infraction he'll talk to you about it. If you get a ticket you probably had it coming. So far I've had all my duck's in a row. He's got some awesome stories too!

If any of you Jack County guys meet him ask about the poachers who abandoned their vehicle to get away and walked to the "donut" shop to wait for a ride..........

Actually met Mr. Hobbs a time or two. Most recent experience last year was outstanding like always. Had a buddy shoot a buck on a small tract and the deer made it over the fence. Went back the next day and Mr. Hobbs escorted us across the fence to try and make the recovery. Unfortunately we lost the deer but I did find it a pleasant experience.

Almost 15 years ago, I met Montgomery County Warden Dean Fitzpatrick...absolutely top notch! And I say that after getting busted doing a STUPID violation! (And no, he didn't let me off without a ticket) He sat and talked to me for an hour or so, and we parted in good terms up with the warning "if I ever catch you violating the law again, I'll bury you under the jail" scared grin I've done every single thing by the book since that day...and always will up

Thanks Dean, I've never forgotten that encounter and I appreciate you doing a dang good job for the state of Texas cheers

They started walking through the weeds towards us and asked where the gate was. We told them 50ft in front of their cars. One went back to his car and pulled through the gate with 2 GW's and 3 LEO's. The LEO walking through the weeds made a comment about the "skinned deer" in the cooler and the one hanging up that we were skinning. We laughed and informed them that they were all hogs. We had to get our licence's from the camper and they started questioning my daughter while I was getting my licence. I quickly reminded them that she was 14 and that I had to be present for any questions. They apologized, checked our licences and coolers, and explained that someone called in that we were cleaning deer. They appreciated our cooperation and went on their way.

GW Alexander in Coryell County is a good guy. He is a professional and is available 24/7 if needed. Have nothing but good things to say about him. He keeps an eye on our place and the surrounding properties.

Actually in regards to questioning her that is only in reference to her being under arrest while being questioned in which case an actual judge could read her rights to her and you still wouldn't have to be present. Doesn't involve general conversation beforehand

I had known him for a couple of years, but one day he stopped by the house and asked if I could let him into a place that was landlocked way back off a county road. I took him back in there, over time he got to where he would stop by and get eggs, eat supper or breakfast. I still have 4 bottles out of a 6 pack of Diet Dr. Pepper in the frig under thee carport and he probably drank both of those bottles out of that 6 pack. I got to go do quite a few ride alongs with him over the years and we built up quite a friendship.
I miss him, he was a fine Christian man, a good fair/logical officer and a good friend. I haven't met the 2 new wardens we have yet but they will have some big shoes to fill.

Are you serious? That's the one I'm talking about, I just couldn't remember his name. Man that sucks. He was a hell of a man and did his job extremely well. Man I can't believe that...

Great man. All I heard was that he was gone, no other details. Sorry to hear he lost the battle. You're right though, BIG shoes to fill.

I deal with them on a weekly basis since many of my properties border the King Ranch. They help me out alot when it comes to people poaching and the not so classy neighbors that I have to deal with. Matt Robinson is my favorite to deal with. He always will let me know where he has been seeing the most ducks on the bay and he will be there if you need him no matter what time it is.

Best/worst experience came when I was 16. I cut class and drive down south to dove hunt, that was probably the best year I've ever seen. Any how my buddy Patrick and I, took of at 7 am and made it there by noon. He shot competitively so we had about 6 cases of shells. Anyhow, we were hunting over some irrigated fields and sun flower we planted that year. I don't know how long that game warden watched us but by 530 pm we had one of those gigantic onion burlap sacks pretty much full. So he kept waiting I Still don't exactly know where he was but we spotted him and tried hiding the birds and kicking shells into the high grass. Anyways, he pulled up and asked how we were and our licenses. He gave them back and he said you boys Been doin a lot of shooting huh? I said ya were not very good. He said well maybe you should find something new. We all kinda laughed my buddy and i were on the verge of about crappin our pants. He started back to his truck and half stride there he turned around and said " so you fellas gonna get straight with me?" my buddy and I kinda looked at each other and said "yes sir". He asked so where is that big ol burlap sack. We pulled it out of the brush and he made us count the birds. I don't remember the exact number but it was over 400. So long story short he gave us a pretty harsh lesson on breaking the law but cut us a break. However, he did make my buddy and I give him all the birds dressed out to look like mini whole chicken fryers, and being that it's an offense to not take proper and reasonable care of your game he got the cooler too! That took hours. Good times

Went to my sons babysitters place for a cookout. The food was great and the company was great. The babysitters husband was the Howard county game warden and it is always a great experience...we just call him mister Matt around my house.

My wife got a ticket for going 32 in a 30. Yes it really happened. She also works with our GW wife. He made sure that ticket went away. He is one hell of a guy and his wife is super sweet to boot.

A couple of years back I went on a ride-along type deal with the game warden that was here at the time. He hadn't ate so we swung by the local DQ and he got a burger. We went outside of town and pulled up on top of a huge dirt mound that was created from a drainage ditch dug years back. Anyhow, he finished up his burger and we were about to drive off the mound and make a round through an area I was wanting to show him that had bad poaching when we noticed a pickup easing down the road below us. We decided to sit and see what they were up to and was quite suprised to see them turn and start coming up the road to the top of the hill. As they neared the top, he turned on his overheads and they pull on up. The next thing I know he is telling them to keep their hands up and reaches in the pickup. His window is down and he tosses something in the front seat with me. As soon as it hit his seat, I knew what it was by the smell. Apparently the kids in the pickup were headed up to the hill to smoke a little pot and pulled right in the lap of the local GW. After tickets were issued and all was said and done we had a good long laugh.

I have had lots of good run-ins and conversations with GWs through the years, but this was by far the most memorable.

Long time ago, when I was a young kid, my parents had just bought some land out near Winnsboro. We were having Thanksgiving diner along with my grandma - who didn't hunt. The travel trailer was hidden and the gate was locked, but we noticed a truck driving up to it. A GW got out and knocked on the door. We had been hunting earlier in the morning and were still dressed in camo.

He came up and started talking about how he keeps a close watch on the area and has noticed the deer blinds we put up. While he was talking me and my younger sister both pulled out our hunting licenses and hunter safety cards. He literally had the dumbfounded look on him. He was a nice guy, and we choose to be thankful for someone keeping an eye on our weekend paradise. Still cracks me up thinking about running to him while he was playing tough LEO and showing him our info.
