I have a 7mm-08 that I have and tried Hornady 139g SST and the gun hates them. Does anyone own this rifle in any cal. and what does it like to shoot out of it?
If I put my wife in a high fence will her rack get bigger?

Never know what a rifle will like until you find it. Good looking gun by the way.
Hornady SST in the custom line shoots ok in my 7mm-08 but the superformance loads shoot more of a pattern than a group. The old Hornady Lite Mag with the 139gr soft points or SST shot very good, in fact so well I stopped reloading for it for several years but went back to my reloads after it became unavailable.
If you do not reload just try different loads, never know for sure what might work well. Nosler ammo has been good in several other calibers.

That's what I'm trying to avoid is buying a bunch of ammo to try on it. Would like to see if anyone had luck with something so I would not have to buy a bunch of different brands. I'm really thinking about buying Remington. thinking using the same brand as the gun I will have better luck with it.

Every gun is different. For example my remmy 7-08 loves the hornady 139 gr. it took me about 6 months and 6 boxes of different brands to figure it out. Second choice is core-loct. If it was my gun I would try those next since they are relatively inexpensive.
Isn't it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different.
Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

Not good groups at all. That's why I'm asking. I am in a 9x9 inch square. I thought my scope was loose. I have a zeiss 4.5x14x44 my neighbor told me not to buy It he hated his zeiss and had the same problem. So I don know if its gun, scope or ammo at this point. Really nerve racking. I can buy a cheap savage and it shoots great. I drop 2k on this rig and have this happen

I have a R700 Light Varmit Stainless Fluted in 7-08, this gun is essentially the same barreled action as yours. I hand load for it, but the best groups I've found with factory ammo was 140 gr Rem Corelocks.
IMO, brand of ammo has nothing to do with it (shooting Rem ammo out of a Rem gun), nor does the fact that if one ammo shoots well out of a gun will mean it shoots well out of another gun in the same model. I'm afraid you'll have to try a few brands like kmon said in order to find something that works.
Good luck!

The first thing I would do is try a diffent scope on the rifle. Rule out that the problem could be the scope then start thinking about the rifle itself.

I would just shoot corelokts till you find the problem. I can't imagine bullets making a gun shoot 9" groups and that is your only issue. Does it matter how close the rings are to each other? That's the 1st thing that jumped out at me in the pic. Dont know if that matters but doesn't seem like it wouldnt be as rigid that way.

The front base is on backwards compared to the 3 I have with similar bases. Try turning the front base around before another scope. Or switch the bases out to Talley lightweight or DNZ. The most accurate factory ammo in my 700 7-08 is Rem corelokt 140 gr followed by fed premium nosler partition 140 gr.

I'm not to sure if brand of ammo would affect it but I believe bullet weight does

Since its an expensive scope you could put it on a gun you know shoots good to find out if its the scope. I have done that before. I pulled a scope off my .300 weatherby and put it on my 22-250 and it shot great on the other gun...

Since you're pretty much at square 1...here's what I would do. Remove scope and bases and start over. As BMD suggested, make sure the front screw isn't too long. It's not common but it DOES happen. I would also consider upgrading to DNZ one-piece. Clean the crap out of your barrel and then dont touch it again until you've run at least a half box through it. IIRC - the most common loads for the 7-08 are 120gr and 140gr. Pickup up one box of each (same manufacturer). It's not scientific, but it could help you narrow down if YOUR rifle likes like lighter or heavier weights. Take the best of the two then start trying other brands in the same weight to fine tune it and find the best load for YOUR rifle. Again...this is just what I would do.

Thanks for all the feedback. I have not ran into this problem yet, it figures it would happen to my most expensive set up. I'm going to try a few of these suggestions and see what happens.

I would also make sure there are no burs where the bases meet the receiver. The mating surfaces should be CLEAN. Make sure you are installing the proper screw for the appropriate bases and torque the screws per the instructions, if any instructions were included. If there are no torque instructions, look them up for the particular screw being used. Also some loc-tite may help but for the base/ scope area and screws, I would not recommend using anything stronger than the blue strength. Torque the screws and get after it. Of course all of this is if you're staying with that scope. If you decide you are changing the scope, settle on the scope first. I would make sure of which scope you plan to use before adding loc-tite, should you decide to. Either way, the clean areas and torque specs are a must. This would be my opinion/ recommendation.
You can only have too much ammo if you are on fire or swimming....

This could just be me but some others have made mention of it... I think your bases are mounted incorrectly? Again, I'm not sure just an observation that may be worth double checking. And I would start with some good old Remington 140gr as my baseline load to work off of. Nice gun and good luck...
