Is anyone else already dealing with aphids on their plants? I just went to look at mine and I'm already noticing them under the leaves etc. How do y'all get rid of them without harming your plants? Also once you deal with them are you going to have to deal with them again a month later? I've seen a couple lady bugs on the plants so I know they're helping, but not enough. I got them on both jalepeno's, both poblanos and the bell. Didn't even check the tomato but assume they're on there as well.

Some people like Neem. Not a bad option. I like Horticultural Oil. I've heard of people having success with a real soapy solution of blue dawn and water.

My wife uses Neem Oil on house plants. I don't bother much with the garden plants unless it gets bad.
Derek, I think I put my onions in too deep. They're not topping like yours. I was worried about hydraulic pressure from spring rains pushing them up.
Pass the gravy.

Thanks guys! When it rains it hails. Now after that hail storm yesterday it tore up a couple of the pepper plants. Think they'll be good?

Suppose to get another possible round of hail today so we'll see lol

Got the reds out and the sweet potatoes in their place. Averaged 14 per plant this year.

It has been a banner year for tomato's. Have not counted but probably over 100 pulled from the vines. Had a good crop of onions as well. Onions grow to be large> Mne are always smaller than I like.

I planted some yellow spuds a couple of months ago and they seem to be doing fine. Also just planted a sweet tater that was sending up shoots in the kitchen just to see if it reaches maturity. I've never grown them but am thinking there is plenty of growing season here.

I just planted my sweet potatoes too. Be sure to protect those shoots for the next few weeks as the rabbits and others will clean them out over night. They’ll probably be ready around September, early oct I believe

Each shoot will generate a plant, so it needs to be separated out. Once the potato starts growing shoots, we take the shoots and set them in a glass of water until the roots are established before planting.

My tomato plants were doing so well, but my crop has been raped by the f&^$# rats. Traps and repellents did no good. I'm putting out poison tonight.

I've started crushing up all my egg shells we get from our chickens and putting in my garden. So far it has cut down a lot on things getting my tomatoes and black berries.

I put all our egg shells in the compost than gets turned twice a year and put on the garden spot once per year just before planting. Now that my onions are gone I have a little space. Got some cherry tomato plants to put in when and if it ever stops raining violently. GIANT storms all night again...
Pass the gravy.

Need some pepper plant help. Not sure if it's all the rain we've gotten and the soil hasn't been able to dry out, but I've noticed some of the leaves/stems are turning yellow/falling off and the flower buds are turning black and falling off. Still show to be developing new leaves, but they were completely normal last week. Also looks like something is munching on the leaves a little bit but can't find anything on the plants. I did spray the aphids with a mild dawn soap mixture 2 weeks ago (no more aphids) but it's happening on my jalepenos, poblanos and bell. What says the THF gardening trust? My tomato plant is doing just fine.

I think it's wet feet. The part of my garden that doesn't drain as well my pepper plants are struggling a little. The other side that drains good they peppers are banging. I think once it starts to dry out some everything will be fine. You might have some leaf cutter bees munching on the plants. Shouldn't be a problem.

Agreed. My peppers are struggling to make stems/leaves as well as flowers. Tomatoes are doing great. My garden spot holds water underground well ... or badly depending on the weather. Usually it's a good thing but it's been too wet this year.
Pass the gravy.

Did well with the onions but my tomatos have taken a beating with hail and wind. First time in years I don't have a big first crop coming in. Struggling.

What water soluble solutions or granular products would y'all recommend that could feed both peppers/tomatoes? I know the raised garden bed we have drains nutrients out so I want to get them added back into the soil.
