Does anyone have information on how and where to hunt here?

It's best to have a climbing tree stand. Find a good trail and post up. The area near Stubblefield has good deer numbers, but also lots of hunters. Hike in as far as you can to avoid the crowd.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Here's the best piece of advise I can give you.... Find spots in the forest where the forest backs up to private property, and that there are feeders on the private property, and then set up on the forest side and try to catch the deer coming & going from the private property. You can't bait in the forest, but you can at least take advantage of a situation where people are legally baiting on private property.

That other thing about going "about a mile or so, or as far as you can" into the woods... Well, you can do that if you like but I can show you more deer, and pictures of deer from trail cams usually within 100 yards of roads, and some major roads. The deer know you can't shoot them at the side of the road and they have travel lanes just inside the woodline that parallel many roads.

I will say that I have not had much luck finding any legal deer (AR's)this year. Plenty of basket racked 6's & 8's, and yearling deer with few points (2-4), and does.. Some of the bucks I've seen have been close, but so close that I would not risk a shot. If I had gotten a doe tag this year, I would have already had meat in the freezer.

A hog is nothing more than a bullet receptacle.

Kawabuggy thanks for that info. I don't think I would've thought of that. I'm really just looking for some bow hunting close to home and maybe a doe or 2 for the freezer so sounds like I might be able to have some luck. Know anything about the "redtape", permits, etc?

Deer herd of 160,000+ acres wanders onto their 100 acre plot and it becomes "their" deer. LOL
