270 wasn't good

300 savage x 6 first one had only a beak left and the others all neck shot

Made the mistake of shooting one with 300 RUM not much left but feathers.

My son and I shot 4 more this weekend, 2 with my .270 and 2 with his.25-06. We're shooting them far back on the body over the legs. If you get that shot right, the breast is untouched. You will loose some meat if you hit them forward of that. At this point it is almost as much about keeping them off the feeder so there is some corn to draw deer and pigs. I've never seen a feeder cleaned up faster then when a flock of turkeys comes in.

30-06 three times in the neck and one of those times at an incredible distance.

223 walking uphill from 150 yards. Got lucky and hit the neck.

I have had the same thing happen as daulongranch. Shot a turkey with .243 at 20 yards with a direct hit and feathers flying everywhere but never recovered the turkey. I have no idea how that happened.

This year I shot one with a .270 and aimed for the base of the neck. That got the job done and no damage to meat.

I shot one years ago with a 300 Win Mag right in the craw, it didn't hurt the breast

I have never shot one with anything bigger than a 22 hornet. Just don't seem right wasting meat.

30-06 165gr sierra gameking. Whistled to get there attention and one tom stood up and looked straight at me shot him low dead center below the breast and all the inerds exited the blow hole. Didn't waste a stitch of meat, breast and drums included. Didn't have to clean the guts out to boot. Cleanest kill I have ever made on any game animal. To top it off he is my biggest tom to date 14" tri colored beard (brown, black & grey).

45-70 but I reload and I shoot them with a 400 grain lead bullet loaded to around 950 fps.

I shoot them with 30-06 Accelerators. Does a nice job on them. Not too much damge and puts them down. Since I do not eat dark meat I usaually aim where the thigh meets the back. I think they outlawed the accelerators. A buddy bought several boxes and gave them to me so I have not had to buy any.

270 - Aimed for center balloon knot. No gutting was necessary after the shot and no meat wasted.
