Got up at 4am, on the road by 4:30, in the stand at 5:40. Buck before light, two deer at the feeder just as I'm getting ready to be able to see, then here comes a white flash, the two black ones, another white and a brown.
Only mt 6th hunt this year and the third ruined by wild dogs. Haven't shot any, don't know that its legal to do so, and don't know that I could pull the trigger if it was.
Just sharing my frustration. Still early so maybe I'll get lucky though the dogs are still in the area just out of sight. I'd fire a warning shot but I only have two shells on me as the rest are in the truck.
At least I'm hunting, right?

If you don't have it in you to shoot them you can always trap them and take them to the shelter, just remember those wild dogs are hunting in a pack and can kill a mature trophy buck or KILL YOU if your not paying attention. I was jumped by a pack of hog dogs down in SE Texas years ago, I was able to shoot 2 of the 6 with my 30-06 and the other 4 ran off. Since that day I have NEVER stepped out of my truck without my 40 cal. Strapped to my waist.....

Well, problem is one had a collar, so I'm not sure how wild they are. Just one of the issues you deal with hunting in a relatively populated area. One did look like a pit. No issue popping him.

Just for thought, many years ago in my old home town in New York the game warden and the cops found 4 deer over 3 weeks that had been mauled and killed, they had no idea what was doing this until a home owner set up a deer feeder and a game camera in his back yard (yes it is legal) they found a 5th deer about 100 yards from the feeder and when they checked the game camera they had pics of 5 dogs all had collars and after showing the pictures around the neiborhood they came to realize all 5 of the dogs were pets that belonged to people in the area! Apparantly when these dogs were together in a pack they reverted to their instincts and would chase and kill deer. Trap them or shoot them it is only going to get worse!

I have had the same problem on a property I hunt near a small town. Not only were they messing with the wild life but started on the cattle also. I was reluctant to shoot at first but I would throw down on coyotes or other predators in a second so I started to throw down on the wild dogs too. They are gone now and no problems since.

Check to make sure their not the land owners and if not drop them.
If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

I had that problem. Let's just say that I have less of a problem now than I did.

If you shoot a young deer because a neighbor will shoot it, you are that neighbor.

Check to make sure their not the land owners and if not drop them. I'm the landowner, so that's not an issue. Asked neighbor about them and he's not too happy I let them walk. Said they had been after his cattle. Just happens that I'm missing a cow and a calf as well. I may have screwed up.

I am probably one of the biggest dog lovers on this forum. My take on what you described is this. As a dog owner, I have a responsibility to make sure I have my dogs under control at all times. Those dog's "owners" (if they even have one) have failed to keep their dogs in check. They, in my opinion, don't care enough for their pets to keep them in line. If I were in your shoes, I would not hesitate to shoot any dog that is chasing deer or putting me in danger on my place. It sounds harsh, but if they loved their dogs they would ensure their safety.

Look at it like this-if it was a feral hog, would you have reservations about shooting it? Feral dogs are just as destructive and prolific breeders, only not as tasty Most of these dogs are dumped in the country and not strayed pets or working dogs. That was a big problem in my area when this recession started. Funny that someone else doesn't have the heart nor guts to do what's right with their obligation, but are perfectly willing to make their problem someone elses. They piss on feed pen posts and chase game. I had a pack of mutts come out of the brush on Labor Day come barking/growling at me and I took out the alpha male. The deer are notably more prevalent at that stand now than last year. If I see mongrels, I shoot them.
