Looks like reptile scale of some sort possibly dyed and set in epoxy. I'm sure I'm way off, but that's what it reminds me of.

Lots of good guesses.
I hear a lot of the reptile/fish scale comments.
They are actually made from a pine cone being encased in a dyed acrylic resin and then cut in half.
This is what they looked like before I put them on the knives.

This is the side you see now.

This is where the pine cone was cut in half to make the scales.

TYhe first one had me puzzled but the color on the second one helped and that was before I saw the un-cut scales.
Are they stabilized pine cone?

If I am wrong I was just joking so i don't look stupid. Of course I knew it wasn't pine cones!

I don't have much knowledge on gator scales. I guess you could if they were thick enough. The key is having them thick enough so you have a bookmatched set when you cut them in half to form the scales.

No sir. This same process has been done with cactus for a while now, and they are cast in Dyed Alumilite resin.
They hold up very well.

Incredible looking knife, I'd like one of those, seems she'd make short work of skinning and quartering.

I know Pine Cone, right?

The wild life of today is not ours to do with as we please. The original stock was given to us in trust for the benefit both of the present and the future. We must render an accounting of this trust to those who come after us.

That's seams to be the newest thing in knife scales, you can get sticks done that way, cactus, corn on the cob, they have been doing broken pecan shells for years. Did you get them from ankrom exotics, how it was to work with I have been planning on getting some for a while but just haven't got around to it, they have a lot of interesting knife handle materials.

I didn't make them, Pat Ankrom made them. They run $40 a set plus shipping.

Yes sir, Pat brought them down when he visited me last month.
We went on a cactus gathering trip so he could make some cactus scales up. They were about the same consistency as the cactus scales or buffalo horn to work with.
