After the duck hunters are done for the season, I'm considering launching my boat and go up the river in to the Corp land to duck a little pig hunting. I figured you guys would be the best folks to ask about boat navigation.
Any tips for where to launch and how to safely get "back in there" through the shallows and stumps? I've got a 16' G3 with a Suzy 40 regular shaft, boat drafts about a foot or so. Can you get a boat pretty far up the river?
Thank you much!

I'd say unless we get rain (and a lot). Or you have a mud motor, your not going to get within a mile of your hog spot.

Naw, I would not listen to duck hunters, no telling what they say. I'd go back over to the hog forum you get better advice.

Figured as much, I guess people might think I'm an undercover duck hunter. oh well. i don't have to know anytime soon. I can wait, assuming the lake fills back up, anyway. Good luck to all you feather chasers, I may have time to join in the fray in a few years.

My only advice is to try it during the day before you attempt it in the dark. If you don't have a GPS get one so you can stay somewhat on course. That GPS has saved my [censored] a few times when it was so dark I couldn't see either bank or the fog was so thick over the water I couldn't see 10 feet.

-Matt I haven't been on Lavon this year, but I know last year it was higher than it is now. No way in he!! you can get to the river in a mud motor or at least the spot I'm thinking about.

Thanks for the replies. I've got lights and electronics, I will definitely try it in the daytime first, mark a GPS trail. I've never been to the north end of the lake, i had no idea it was that impassable.
Thanks again fellas.

There is no north end of the lake or any river at this point. The lake is too low. Drive over 380 with a pair of binos and you will see what I mean. Pretty soon it will be a pond like it was last year...
