I shot a bison in South Dakota a few years back that was one of 2 bulls peacefully grazing. When my bull went down, the surviving bison seemed to have an epiphany and began to viciously gore the dying bull. My guide channeled his best Indiana Jones and started popping his bullwhip. The surviving bull, who was by now rolling his 1-ton ex-buddy around like a dung beetle, finally reluctantly moved away. While we were taking pictures, he hung around grunting and pawing up dirt.
All this just makes us appreciate the tension among dominant males that lies under the surface. Any subtle show of weakness will be immediately met with a determined attack.

that is soo awesome. I have seen this numerous times with turkeys. they don't exactly attack the dead one, but start picking their heads up a million time like they are trying to wake the other one up.
Ive seen pigs start jumping on one that just got smoked also..
