You mean the bolt handle? you could probably take it to a smith and have what you want done to it for less than getting a new/different one.

I would be interested in that. I don't know any around my area, but would be up for a drive if anyone has a suggestion on a gunsmith. I am looking to install a low safety as well. My bolt is originally one of the bent versions and i am unsure of that would complicate the job.

Well, I'm having Rays hardware bend the bolt handle and I bought the timney low safety. I might be able to get lower rings after all that. Anyone know which would make for a snug fit with a 50mm objective lens?

You might want to PM sklar from SWFA on here, he has a formula for figuring out what is needed. Sklar posts a lot in the "hunting gear section".

Well, I got quoted $75 for bending the bolt handle if I would do the polishing after. I also provided the low safety for the smith to install. I got a call last week and was told it was ready and the gunsmith wanted to talk with me about it. So I went in this saturday to pick it up and the gunsmith then shows me the low safety is not on and how the bolt is not fully assembled and begins to tell me where it needed milling in several areas after reshaping the handle and and where the reciever needed to be cut for it to function.
I then asked how much for them to finish the job, and was told it would be another $100.
So $175 minimum for bending a bolt handle. I'm feeling a little taken, am I wrong?

I've been around guns for a long time and am embarrassed to ask this question having owned about 7 mausers but never two at a time. So here's the question. Are the bolts interchangeable on a large ring mauser? What's the difference between a mauser bolt on a 22-250 and the bolt on a mauser in 30-06.? Or any other mauser for that matter.

If Forney is not too far to drive for you, then call Lee Koning at 972.564.1520. Keep in mind that most smiths are very busy right now.

Time is no problem, I expect most places to be quite a wait. It has been at this smith for a month already. Hopefully next time I get a call that it is ready I can go pick up a functioning rifle this time.

I have used the smith at Ray's back in the 70's but the one now is probably different. I have two custom mausers, one was fitted with Stith mounts which 98% of people have no idea what they are. The other was drilled and tapped for standard generic type mounts. Point of this is while you are concerned about the 50mm objective, make certain the handle will clear the eyepiece, which is why you had the bolt bent but may still pose a problem. Seems scope manufactures decided that if they used bigger bells the actual glass quality could be downgraded. IMHO

My bolt handle was originally bent, just not designed to clear a scope. I had an older smaller eyepiece scope on it with high rings and it cleared fine. But for lower rings and my new scope (with a bigger eyepiece). It wasn't possible. It all seems to fit well now. I just need to pull it apart to do some polishing and bluing.

I have an argentine 1909 mauser and am looking for a company that sells a bent bolt for the action. Any suggestions? Cut the old handle off. Grind it down and finish it out. Brownell's sells all kinds of bolt handles. Some folks make handles out of grade 8 bolts. With the ball at the end made out of most anything. Anyway you go. Fit the new handle to the bolt body. Get it ready to be welded. Find a shop that tig welds. They are common. Explain where you want it welded. They might even do it while you wait. It takes less then 15mins. I'am guessing either a 12pack of beer or $20 bucks to get it done. Tig welds are clean enough to leave in the white. You can have it mig welded but you'll need to grind down the weld bead to finish it out. But they will look one piece with no "weld" showing.

I like the polished "white" original look. I was thinking of doing the entire action that way and bluing the barrel.

I polished the entire bolt on a CZ 452. You'd think that it would rust. But mirror polished steel doesn't rust that easy. And with just a little oil and a rubbing of 0000. It stays bright.
IMHO...looks better then stainless. Steel has a blue undertone that stainless doesn't.
