If temps stay in the 30's at night. Doesnt get into the 50's until late in the day. Would the deer be okay hanging covered in the shade? Just for a couple days. What you folks think? Thanks for any advice.

Will probably be fine, but keeping the flies and bugs off is a huge deal. 1 fly will ruin your day. Cheese cloth type of covering works best.

I wouldn't. I go by 45 or cooler and above freezing, no sun light on carcass at all. If you're gonna hang it put it in a game bag , even in cool temps above freezing there are plenty of insects looking for a meal. I'd skin & quarter and put the meat on ice in an ice chest asap.

Thanks for any advice. NO! Above 40 degrees natural bacteria multiplies at full speed and can ruin the meat within hours! 'A couple of days' with 50's will surely trash it, and you put yourself in the position of being guilty of 'waste of game' statutes! Get the temp (of meat) down to 40 or below, and keep it there!

I use frozen 2 liters on the bottom of the cooler and put the meat on top of them (put down a black trash bag first). But, this is only for the road trip home. We put our quartered deer in the camp fridge to cool it and start to age it. Get the meat home and put it in the garage fridge to finish the aging process.
Like others have said, keep out of bugs, sun and temp above 40.

Do not like to hang them if it gets above 45. I do not skin them if I am going to hang. The meat dries out too much. Skin may hold heat in until they cool down. Once cooled the skin helps hold the cold in.
