Anyone else hunt in or around Hondo?
We have a place there (about 1600 acres) that I'll be hunting for the 1st time. My friends have been hunting here for over 10 years on this lease, so that should help.
I'm excited to get out there and hunt for the 1st time. I'll be using a 270. We built a couple ground stands that turned out pretty good, and there are about 6-7 other established stands on the property to choose from.
Just wanted to say hello and see who all else hunts in Hondo.

Hunted on a ranch near Lapryor this weekend. That place had the most wildlife and and the biggest bodied dear I've ever seen. A couple of times I thought they were horses when they were about 400 yards out. My brother's father in-law has a friend with a ranch in Hondo and he says he is completely over run with hogs. They've run off all his deer and turkey. Hoping my brother can work ourselves in there to help erradicate the little porkers.

Hunt south of D'Hanis, just west of Hondo. Hondo gets a fair amount of tax dollars from us.

I used to hunt in Hondo and stayed at the whitetail lodge. I went on A Sunday hunt and got back to the hotel to load up at 12:10 PM. They charged me for another day at the hotel

Dont know about the hunting there but it seems like you drive through Honda to hunt anywhere worth a crap. I will remember the sign on the outskirts of Hondo for the rest of my life. This is Gods country, dont drive through it like hell. I love that sign. Good luck with your hunting. With 1600 acres if the hunting is not what you want you have lots of room for managment over the years. Wish I could get my hands on a lease of that size.

i hunt a small area north of hondo off 173. it is pretty remote, hilly and rocky. the hunting there has been pretty slim the last several years. last year was a huge acorn crop so the deer were not moving. we also do not have much water in the area. hope your spot is better than mine.

i have family that lives in hondo. i hunt an hour south in batesville. some of the best hunting in the state can be had within 45 min of hondo
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
