last week, I was at the ranch, and told me that we wern't going to be using the ranch rifle as a ranch rifle anymore, its going into semi-retirement(model 70 winchester stainless featherweight in .22-250, its a pretty rare combo) and to bring mine out and use that one. I told him I had traded mine off earlier this year and I'd have to find a new one.

He called on friday and asked if I had found one, I told him I hadn't had much time to look, and he told he'd keep an eye out. He called me back about an hour later and asked me what I thought about savages, that his buddy had one for sale and was gonna drop it off, If I liked it I could get it bought for $200. I told him i'm not a big fan of savages but for $200 what the hell, thats a pretty good deal.

I dropped by today and this was waiting for me....a ruger hawkeye stainless in .22-250.

Talk about a nice suprise!

It was a gift from him.

I like it. Trigger is much improved than the mk II's

I've got one just like it in 223, and I'm really fond of it. First stainless rifle I've ever had. I wipe it down with an oily rag every month or so. You can put a lighter spring in the trigger assembly if you want a lighter pull weight. I had it done by a gunsmith and it was so simple that I think he was embarrassed to have me watch. Only charged $10. I added a Timney trigger later and WOW, I sure like that. The ruger trigger, with the lighter spring was fine, but the Timney is just so much better.
