How is it for any kind of distance shooting out to maybe 300 yards and closer ? Is it a good shooter with the open sights or better with a scope ?

It's damn ugly. I have several 308's and don't think a hog would know if one was called a "hog rile" when it killed him. Marketing is what this is about.

How is it for any kind of distance shooting out to maybe 300 yards and closer ? Is it a good shooter with the open sights or better with a scope ? It's a Savage .308, so it would have no problem getting to 300 yards. I don't know how short the barrel is, but even if it were 18" 300 yards and beyond would be no problem. As far a scoping it is concerned, you know the terrain you'll be hunting. Is it thick brush, creek bottoms, mesquite flats, or something of that nature? If so leaving it just with irons would be appropriate. If you have more open prarie and are planning on spot and shoot from distance then, of course, a magnified optic would be helpful. Or you could get the best of both worlds and install a 2-10 X and be effectively lethal where ever you are.

It has some serious open sights on it, and where I am, it goes from brushy canyons to open plowed field quickly. I had only seen it in a magazine until the other day and was just wondering if it was worth the money or better to just go with a traditional 308, as it was said, hog don't know the difference when he gets shot.
Thanks all !

Because of the open fields I would have to go with optics in 2-10 X then.
