Looking to buy a .22 semi auto. First thought is the Ruger 10/22, any other ideas?

Sig522 eats anything and is very fun to shoot. Also looks just like the Sig 556 and works with most the parts which is a plus.

I'd suggest anything but mossberg. You'll pay less for the mossberg but it's a pain when your 22 is unaccurate or distorting good rounds and not shooting them accurately. I suggest a 10-22 or rem 597

I have a S&W M&P 15-22, very happy. Marlin .22 bolt action, not pleased at all. Marlin 30-06 was flawless though, so possibly an anomoly.

597 has been great for me. Got one in 22lr and 22 WMR. Very accurate and dependable. Also have had my share of the 10/22 and yes, they are nice and very easy to modify, but not as accurate as my 597s. Perhaps I've just been lucky.

I love my Ruger 10/22. I run subs and supersonics through it. Just a handy accurate gun.

Sig 522. It's simple. Really well made. Rugged as hell. Ive taken LOTS of small game with a 22. My first was a 10/22, tried all the stocks. Rugers can be super lite. But they do jam. No biggy just, it just waste two three rounds...For hunting around cedar trees, wooded areas. The Sig 522 is what you need. It's easy to clean. More then a Ruger. You get mud in the muzzle. The ruger has to have the bolt pulled....not cool in the woods. the Sig breaks open, pull bolt, push the mud out, boresnake good and it's GTG. You can mount flashlights easy. Solid mount for sights. threaded barrel. The brass bolt behind the trigger is a overtravel stop. The sear has been cut down. factory trigger springs. The trigger can be made to have a really nice snap. As factory installed...it's crap. Moves like a porchswing Bicycle tube grip. Yep..it works

X100 grasshopper I love mine it eats everything and is accurate and the only "tactical" 22LR with a aluminum receiver except the HK22 but those are pretty pricey. I got the green furniture on mine with a primary arms M4 clone and love it.

Sig 522. Loving mine. Eats everything from factory mag or black dog drum 50 rd. I love that gun and mag. I have trouble with my other black dog mags. If i push the mag forward at the bottom while shooting they work fine.
My 10/22 is getting dusty since the 522 came along.

For the price you cant beat a 10/22.Especially if you can find a good used one,or a new one on sale.

For auto gun the 10/22 is an awesome rifle.

From H&K website: H&K 416 D145RS .22 LR The .22 caliber HK 416 is loaded with authentic features. From its appearance, feel, and operation, right down to the sling swivel incorporated into the stock, the 416 D145RS is a replica in every sense. Like all the .22LR H&Ks offered by Umarex, the 416 is a dedicated .22 rimfire rifle. It is engineered and built in Germany by Carl Walther with a match grade precision barrel, upper and lower metal receivers, a retractable stock, and a machined rail interface system. The 416’s pistol grip and buttstock are authentic in that they include storage compartments for small tools or batteries. The magazines for the .22 caliber 416 are made of high-strength polymer and are designed to make loading simple and efficient. They’re available in either a 20- or 10-round version. The estimated retail price for the 416 rifle is $559. Operation The .22 caliber HK 416 D145RS operates on a blowback system. The dust cover functions and the bolt holds open when the magazine empties. Its sights are on-rail and the rear sight is adjustable for windage and elevation. Its safety selector rotates 90 degrees from ‘On Safe’ to ‘Fire’. Take down for basic cleaning is simple—there are no loose parts. Just remove the rear receiver pin and pivot the upper receiver to open.

The only issue with the sig that I have is that it feels so "plasticy" when I held it in th store.
Really want on of those .22 AR's eventually.
